The book itself makes an appearance in Genesis Climber Mospeada.

Oh wow, one of my favourite novels.
Quote: | The original novel is set in the middle of the 21st century when lunar base builders discover a giant corpse in a crimson spacesuit. |
An ape-like hominid corpse is discovered on the moon, not a giant corpse. Several giant corpses, inside an advanced spaceship, are found on Ganymede.

It wasn't an ape-like corpse. It was a fully human corpse.

Nope, it was a hominid corpse, with more in common with modern humans than previously discovered ancient hominids. A 'missing link', as it would have been in the 70's when the book was written.

You must be confused. The missing link was found in the ship on Ganymeade, the body on the moon "was as human chemically as he was structurally" (Ch.6). Now he was of an unknown racial group, physiologically similar to Eskimos, but that was all. Danchekker goes into a lot of detail concerning this subject.

That is correct.
In fact, it isn't a spoiler at all, as on the back cover of my copy it specifically describes the finding of a desiccated human body inside a spacesuit on the moon in a cave (where there isn't any erosion to create a cave) and the dating of the body was 50,000 years ago, before modern humans evolved and long before spacesuit-level technology was available.
The mystery was in finding out how all these apparent impossibilities actually occurred. I picked the book up just on the basis of wanting to see how the author resolved it all. I was not disappointed.
