I've heard something about an edition of the Akira manga that collects the whole thing in 1 book. Is there such a book?

Well, seeing how there is 6 Volumes averaging at about 300-350 pages a piece, that would be a 1800-2000 page book . I doubt that a book almost 2 times width of the bible would have any practical use. I think it’s much better off in a 6 volume format. If they did take on a task like that they would defiantly have to abridge it to less than half that size.

Well, they did it with Bone (an American comicbook), and that was over 1300 pages. Still, Akira is over 2000 pages, and the Bone trade is hard enough to handle as it is. If someone does do it, I'd imagine it would be Barnes and Noble, who already has some thick comicbook collections for sale. Still, I'd be very suprised if this ended up being true.

The first volume of Akira was recently released in a very nice hardcover from Barnes & Noble. But I doubt they'll bother to release the rest of the series in that format. :/
