If Tokyopop did indeed licensed The Sacred Blacksmith manga, then I'll have to stop reading the scan-lated version of it. At least, it would be a great news for it if that were the case.

I noticed that the article made a point that it's unspecified whether it's the manga or the light novel.
Personally, I would be more excited if they've licensed the light novel, but I would guess that it's probably the manga. Either way, I hope that they have decided to pick up the license for this series. I'll be picking up volume 1 once it comes out.

That's always my policy.
Any new license announcements at this point are welcome, even if I'd rather there be more 'break from the mold' titles. Meh. To each his own.

Well, if this is the light novel series, then this is fantastic news (as the manga is not the original source materiel, I don't particularly care about it). It's always good news when a light novel series is released in the US (though far too of them never see completion), particularly when it's one whose anime adaptation has been released. If it's the light novel series, I'll definitely be picking it up. Of course, it would be nice if they finished other light novel series like Scrapped Princess, but this is still good news.

The price listed on the Amazon page is more in line with Tokyopop's manga prices, than with what they were charging for light novels.

Well, if that's the case, then it's probably the manga, which is a pity. I'd really like to be able to read the light novels. But at least the folks interested in the manga will be able to get their hands on it. Personally, I only read a manga if it's the original source material.

The first volume of Gosick was $9.99, the second was $12.99. The .hack// G.U. "Terror of Death" light novel was MSRP'ed at $10.99, the same as this.
So I'm not sure Tokyopop really has a "set" price for light novels, since it's still a very vague and undefined effort, and they're still working out the best pricing strategy (if there is one).
Anyways, I hope this is the novel, even though it will likely be the comic. Manga based on light novels often seem like cheap cash-ins compared to the original.

I was going by the copies of the Slayers novels and the Crest of Stars/Banner of Stars novels I had handy, which were less. But, come to think of it, they are also a few years old now.
