I'm not entirely sure I understand the question (or if any exists in the first place), but I'll try.

Yes, I have seen the slashed-apart version of YGO which airs on Saturday mornings. It's painful to watch, although the dialogue is hilarious in that it actually takes itself seriously. It is my understanding that unedited YGO is somewhat more mature, a level which varies depending on whom you ask. (Ask some rabid fan, and they'll probably tell you it's the most graphic thing since Hellsing; more level-headed individuals say it's more graphic, but nothing that special.) I believe YGO is seeing an uncut DVD release now, though I have not yet seen any of it, so I cannot make any specific comment.

Barely. VERY BARELY. Infact the show is pretty much on par unedited than it is edited. The dialouge remains horrible and trite, the concept is rotten, the direction, art, and everything else is borderline, and they STILL take themselves far too seriously.

To top that off, the uncut DVD release is a sham.

Interesting... Is it that they didn't release uncut DVDs at all? Are they bootlegs? Are they of terrible quality? I'd like to know the specifics of this, since I haven't heard anything of it since reading that YGO would see an uncut release.

I'm not surprised...

... it's like people expect that because it's edited it's automatically stained by Americans.

It's an anime about a card game, how much better would it get, if any?

I was playing Yugioh online against a friend, and I needed to stall for a bit, so I played Swords of Revealing Light.

All of a sudden he said:
"I WON'T LET YOU TOUCH MY MONSTERS!"
"SWORDS OF REVEAAAAAALING LIGHT!"

I started cracking up so much. Hahah =P

3 episodes per disc, front loading WWE trailers that are unskippable, 6 month wait between volumes, dubtitles, an even worse dub, no extras, and still $20 USD RRP. Irregular chapter stops too.

Well, I'd heard that some darker aspects of "Shadow Realm" magic see screen time, as well as some *gasp* character development. The whole concept seems kind of squirrelly to me; I watch with my friends just to play MST3K with the dialogue, and see how Yugi will get out of the Scrape-of-the-Day (TM).

A *worse* dub? They actually made the dialogue worse? That's a scary thought. Sounds like they did a really slip-shod job on the DVDs, probably just to fill in the circle saying "We released your uncut YGO, children, now leave us alone." If that's the case, I can't blame them, since I'd *purposely* do a bad job if I had to deal with whiny little kids crying over their lack of spilled blood.

I haven't seen too much of the anime, but the original Yu-gi-oh manga is pretty dark, for a card game-themed anime/manga that is. Nothing too special, but still surprising. Heck, the entire first season (which they just skipped in the dub) has almost nothing to do with the TCG. It's pretty... gangster-ish. Lots of fist fights and knives being pulled out. And the villains are really, really twisted. Oh yeah, and the original Yami (not Yugi) is a sadist. Just see some of the punishments and curses he administers to his enemies, and you would wonder why he's the protagonist...

Yeah, Dranxis is right. the entire 1st season they just skipped because it was too violent. Yami cutting off peoples heads, I kinda find that funny. If you compare it to the other Yami who is soft.Reading the manga you'll get a better idea of wht the show really is.

I've always found the dialogue funny because it is horrible and slighty cliche. the reason the dialogue is horrible is because it states the obvious in my opinion. They can just place a card down they have to say" I will now place this card down". I believe its because its directed at little kids and it makes it easier to understand for them

Yeah, season one was VERY dark, season 2 on less so. The major differences is that peiple die in the original, a lot. Pretty much any time the "shadow realm" is mentioned as a punishment in the US show, it's actually death (for example when those "shadow realm" sawblades were going to touch Yugi's feet and "transport him to the shadow realm", no, buzz saws esgined to saw people's feet off, that sort of thing. It's not that much more mature, but it is less retarded.

Another major difference between the first season and the rest of the series is that instead of centering entirely on one card game, each episode or story revolved around a different game. RPG's, board games, puzzles, all were rampant throughout each episode. Some even seemed like parodies of whatever gaming fad was popular in Japan at the time. Takahashi was very clever at coming up with the unique way the games were played, and adding a degree of interest to them by having Yami become involved with them in some warped, cursed way, where he would end up fighting for his or his friends' lives. It was nowhere near as cheesy as the rest of the TCG-based season, which became very, very repetitive with the same card game over and over. I found it interesting how absorbing he was able to make a few simple, rather twisted puzzle games. But then, the whole series spiralled into merchandise and TCG hell...

Albeit a very profitable TCG hell. As a duelist and a peron who knew about the of edits before the show hit the States, I religiously watch the show and it really depends on what you like in animation. This version is obviously geared more 4Kids (HA!) and I hated the first season of Yu-Gi-Oh! initially, but started watching it near the end of Duelist Kingdom. Just because it's not the original doesn't automatically mean it's unwatchable (Though I want to see the uncut original version and read the manga).

And yes, I believe in the heart of the cards.

They made some really weird decisions with the new dub. As with the Shaman King DVD's they're still using dub names for the characters. But for Katsuya Jonouchi they decided to call him Katsuya Joey Laughing The original Japanese names are in the sub but the monster names are still the Upper Deck ones in both.

Even with the dubtitles though I've enjoyed what I've seen so far. For one thing in the sub it surprised me how spoiler[Haga was so innocent when you’re first introduced to him. In the dub I expected him to do something sinister from the moment I saw him. It probably was the voice that gave him away.] Some of the things I was confused about in the dub originally were clarified. For example the reason that no one was attacking directly in the duels was because spoiler[Pegasus says in the beginning that direct attacks are forbidden at least in the sub.] I hope they continue to release them. My sister started flipping when I told her about the SK DVD Delay.
