Anime's I find better then their manga:

Utena
Full Metal Alchemist - which is only because well, I've found the manga slightly more boring for myself, which is a shame. I blame it on Bone's wonderful presentation of the animated series.
Wolf's Rain
FLCL
Haibane Renmei *only because the anime is longer*

Manga I find better then their anime counterparts:
Angel Sanctuary
Battle Angel Alita
Boys over Flowers
Chobits
Chrno Crusade
Tokyo Babylon
X
Sailor Moon
DNAngel
RGVeda
Love Hina
Magic Knight Rayearth
Miyuki-chan in Wonderland
Mythical Detective Loki
Vampira Princess Miyu
Peace Maker Kurogane
Please Save My Earth

There's probably more, but usually for me I'll like the manga more if it was the original creation, and not based off an anime that came out before it.

I'll add Trigun and Cowboy Bebop to the list of manga that are worse than their anime.

For the most part, manga that are adapted from the anime are usually worse than manga that came before the anime.

Yeah, I could've worded that better...

I would disagree and say that manga are often better then the anime adapted from them. Although both can be good in differant ways. I think Trigun is better in the orginal Manga. The series gets quite good after a while, but I prefer the manga. Naruto is also better as Manga. I find manga adapted from anime to be not as good. I found FLCL's manga lacking, as did I the Tenchi and Beebop mangas.

The manga I've noticed that were better than their prespective anime counterparts were these:
    1. Sailor Moon
    2. Chobits
    3. Cowboy Bebop
    4. X/1999

Best anime I've seen thus far that were better than their perspective manga counter parts were these:
    1. Ranma 1/2
    2. Full Metal Panic!
    3. Tenchi Series

Short list, I know, but I'm a manga fanatic. I need more DVD's. Anime smile + sweatdrop

What mangas are better than their anime counter parts? I think Sailor Moon manga is better than it's anime counter part because it gets into more depth in the reading and detail. Anyway, the anime was butchered anyway, so it is better either way.

What animes are better than their manga counter parts? I think the anime of Rurouni Kenshin is better than it's manga counter part because I just find myself hooked on the anime, and bored reading the manga. It may be lack of interest in the manga or bad story...

Let me guess, you haven't seen anything passed Kyoto in the manga?

I find the Kenshin Manga better than the show over all.
Manga which is better than their anime:
Azumanga Daioh
Chobits
Trigun
Mantantei Loki Ragnarok(but the anime isn't too shabby!)
Peace Make Kurogane(or now by ADV Peace Maker)
Rurouni Kenshin
Brain Powered
Anime which is better than the manga.
Chrono Crusade
FMA
FMP
Cowboy Bebop
Samurai Champloo
X
Angelic Layer
MS:Gundam

Nobody mention Berserk and Samurai Deeper Kyo.
These two manga title are way way better than the anime.

In fact, a lot of manga are better than thier anime counterpart, I don't want to name all of them but the two above are the most obvious.

i usually find that the original manga is supirior to the anime. an exception would be Trigun.
mangas that are based on animes usually are pretty poor i found. RahXephon, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star all are examples of flawed adaptations of animes

I thought the Outlaw Star anime was adapted from the manga first?

Also, the manga adaptions of the Digimon anime aren't all that good. In short, it tries to squeeze a 50 episode anime series into only several volumes (Digimon 02, in fact, was crammed into only two volumes).

Then on the other end of the spectrum we have Akira, which is much more fleshed out and gives characters much more importance then the movie (the most striking example being seen with the old woman, who had a meaningless role in the movie despite her huge role in the manga).

And then I feel I liked the anime adaption of Metropolis more then it's manga. The same might also go for Astro Boy. I say "Might" because while I haven't read the entire manga series, it's hard for me to get into. Mainly because rather then do the stories in chronological order, the volumes seem to just pick their stories at random. You could have a volume containing one story from the late 60's and then have one story from the early 80's.

KareKano, Basara, and Please Save My Earth manga are better than the anime because they finish the story.

As for anime that are better than the manga, these are old ones, but I would say the Heroic Legend of Arslan and Legend of the Galactic Heroes...although their novels are the best.

Well I still think it's too early to judge trigun as we didn't read all of the Trigun Maximum manga yet. Maybe some opinion would change once we are able to finish the manga.
