I really enjoy this anime and wonder if any other anime fans find that it was to short. If they liked it or just plain found it stupid.

Tell us why you liked it first. Intersting characters, weird story, unorthadox comedy, or what? |

The story was intersesting though kind of weird and the comedy though perverted was funny. I am new to the site so until I learn my way around I am a noob.

So because you don't "know your way around the site," you can't tell us why you like this series? I fail to see the logic there. |

about a man who disguises himself as a woman with the help of his crankily eccentric but resourceful landlady so that he can work at a school with the man-hating faculty. The show is a typical "bait and switch" anime, in that it begins as a light and immature comedy but then suddenly, about midway through, becomes a very moving drama. This has the effect of making the dramatic moments more intense, and allowing it to return to the comedic voice when issues get too heavy.
I figured that a lot of people had seen it that is why I didn't say to much about the story sorry. |

One of those series that still hasn't had a UK release so I'll probably only ever own it if I get it in one of my rare splurges on Rightsuf sale items.
I don't think anyone knows what the heck the name means. |

Are you serious why hasn't it been released in the uk. Thats just dumb I mean the show doesn't have any bad content like some of the others I have seen.

Since you're new, I'll just say this: Shows aren't liscensed on whether they're good shows or not or even the content really. They're liscensed depending on how well they think they will sell. Strawberry Eggs, I can attest, will not sell that well, so it probably will not make it to the UK. It's not "dumb", it's "unfortunate". Either way, if they want to see it badly, they can always ship it from the US (which is cheaper anyway ). The anime companies don't 'hate people' (though I sometimes wonder, just look at the ADV Utawarerumono naming incident). I too have seen Strawberry Eggs though, I thought it was pretty middle road actually. I do love me my 'bait and switch' tactics, but as I said in my comments:
Nothing really jumped out to me. |

Strawberry Eggs is one of those series that's initially funny, but then you begin to wonder if the laughter is coming more from the unsuitability of the content rather than any innate humor. The concept is okay on the surface, but the specifics start going overboard in no time. The primary character supposedly wants to prove that men are just as caring and resourceful as women, but a large chunk of the show actually seemed to revolve around dirty old men desiring naive little girls. In fact the protagonist picks one of the smallest and most naive girls in the whole school to get hung up on. There were other issues I had with the show as well, but they were just so completely eclipsed by the primary theme that I rarely bother even mentioning them.

I also think that there is too much confusion in the show. I found some of the episodes hilarious, but on the other hand, I was thinking "Why am I even laughing?".
I think if it was only a show about trying to prove that a guy can be as good of a teacher as a woman, without the dodgy bits that I found quite... ugh... unconfortable to watch, it would be so much better. I dont think that a pair of perverts who take days off work to spy on teenage girls all that funny, neither did I found funny the whole "I have fallen in love with my teenage student" theme. I dont know, I think it kind of glorified the theme that does not seem really appropriate. Well, I still enjoyed a lot of it, and a lot of bits were really funny, but I think some themes got unnecessarily wound up in the plot. |

Not a big fan of cross dressing stuff so that aspect made the series somewhat disturbing. The show was okay, occasionally humorous, but the way it ended kind of hurt the series if you ask me. spoiler[It was for the best I guess, bu Hibiki and Fuko obviously had something going regardless of age differences. An epilogue would have been nice...]
For me the show is most notable for providing the visual footage for the short in one the AMV Hell videos set to "Short Shorts." |

I suspect a number of people would admit to liking this, but they are a bit disturbed by being turned on by Hibiki in his female guise. Personally I gave it a "very good" rating for several reasons.
One reason is that Hibiki seems interesting enough to make you root for his cause. The premise is no more stupid than a lot of highly-rated animes, so I don't see any problem there. Hibiki is neither overly titillated nor appalled by his situation, but makes the best of it. Another is that the story serves up a couple of colorful characters, like the armed landlady or the stuck up headmistress. The artwork is good and the dub is well acted -- what's not to like? Oh right, the "perverted" thing. Actually, given the subject matter I don't recall anything that I would label such. Hibiki focuses on teaching and mentoring as much as he (she) can, and correcting injustice as much as possible. His cross-dressing is a means to an end, not a fetish, and spoiler[he never uses his position to take advantage of the girls. He never gets a bloody nose, either -- what a relief.] One bit of disappointment, though. In the Netflix copies I originally saw, they had some great extras -- including the English voice actors doing interviews in their character roles. Quite amusing. I bought a DVD set later and the extras were missing. |

I, My, Me, Strawberry Eggs has more in common with Great Teacher Onizuka or Gokusen than with the formulaic anime "pervert teacher".
Like Onizuka or Yamaguchi Kumiko, Hibiki is a teacher trying to do his best while being in a rôle that he appears, on the surface, to be unsuited for. Nevertheless, all three characters manage to persevere and impart valuable moral lessons to their students, however untraditional their nature. - abunai |

I saw this show years ago and to be honest, the series started out really great, but towards the end I felt that the series was becoming slightly weird. The ending was all right, but could have ended much, much better.
I also didn't know there was a manga, up until today. The show had some pretty good lessons (don't judge based on appearance, treat others kindly and with compassion etc) but later on, the series paid more attention to the two characters than the over all plot. spoiler[ Now normally there is nothing wrong with a teacher (whom in this case was in late 20's being extra nice to his students. But it's when that relationship becomes more than a friendship at that age that is becomes weird and illegal. Although the main character never did anything weird or creepy to the girls in his class, the fact he nearly kissed Fuko in the later episodes contributed the weird factor.] The series would have been much better had more of the story been developed, instead of so much of the focus on the characters. Wouldn't have been as weird and would invite more comedy in the series. |

Perhaps it's time to remind everybody that the definition of "illegal" does vary quite a bit. Please try not to apply American morals as a universal constant, it doesn't really work that well. In most countries (and, in fact, in many American states), the age of the parties involved would not have precluded a legal relationship. In my native Denmark, the age of consent is 15, and the age of Fuko would not have been a problem. However, here, the relationship would nevertheless have been nominally illegal, since there was a teacher-student relationship involved. Not something that couldn't have been surmounted, however -- there a legal avenues for couples to seek dispensation. However, again, it must be said that spoiler[no sexual consummation of the relationship was involved]. That makes it legal pretty much everywhere. Hmm. I believe we had this discussion before, long ago in another thread... - abunai |
