o_o I like cats!
Whudda thunked it. :< A cynical bastard like myself who pisses off the ANN admins regularly has a massive cuteness proximity for kittens... Guess I should check this one out.

One of my friends claims the anime adaptation to be her favorite anime ever.

I haven't read the manga, but I did check out a few episodes of the anime. But despite having been a member of a household that has more or less always had pets (both dogs and cats) in it, I... just couldn't get into this. It was simply too asinine for me.

The manga is all right, but I think the anime is better. The first season theme song is very well done and I like seeing Chi animated.
Even though I don't have a cat (but I do have several dogs.) Also, I like that there is nothing creepy about this series or anything disturbing.
Too much moe and ecchi these days and not enough shows that is normal and clean.

Ooh, there's an anime? I'm going to have to check it out.
Being a big cat lover I bought Chi on site. (After all how can you deny that cute cover? And I love the color pages.) I thought that the review was rather spot on. It is adorable and fun to read and the later chapters do develop more plot (such as the mentioned Vet episode and the Dad trying to win Chi back; trying to disguise Chi at the apartment complex since pets are not allowedspoilers included just in case). So I hope that vol 2 will even better. Plus if you ever had a cat the cat toy episode is very familiar.
Also, it is true that the baby talk is VERY distracting. I just read it as normal. I loan out my copy already and warned that the baby talk is there. I'm hoping that it goes away as Chi matures.

I've been thinking about picking this up. As a genuine cat lover, it seems right up my alley. Also, I really did enjoy the many episodes of Chi's New Address that I watched.

I have to agree. Sometimes it's just nice to be able to read something and not fear that a creepy relationship will wriggle its way in or anything. There's all too many series that sound good and have a nice enough plot, but become totally worthless/annoying/creepy to the ones reading it for said plot.

I kinda want to get this and read this for the cuteness, but am afraid the baby talk will drive me insane. I hate it when authors write in speech impediments for their characters, especially main ones (lisps, or replacing all r's with w's, and the like). It just makes things difficult to read and annoying.
Listening doesn't bother me so much, just reading it does.

I saw this at B&N the other day, and very nearly picked it up. I expect I'll be going back for it soon. It's very cute and colorful and looks like a fun read. When I was growing up I always had at least one cat, along with assorted other critters, so I'm thinking I'll probably like this one.

I'm sad no one can view the first season of the anime legally. I liked it more than season two, which airs on Crunchyroll, though I admit I didn't finish the entire run. One well-known fansub indexer removed its listings after receiving a C&D letter, yet there's no evidence of any R1 licensor waiting in the wings, nor any evidence that Crunchyroll intends to show it either. Now that the manga is out, maybe someone will consider licensing the anime as well?
There are just so few shows that I can unreservedly recommend to someone interested in legally-available anime for family viewing. Season one of Chi would definitely be in my top five.

I absolutely adore Chi. ♥ I went out and bought the manga once I found out the first volume was released. It'd be nice if the anime would get licensed; it's the one show my mom actually enjoys and it's so cute! Chi looks a lot like the shorthair our family had while I was growing up. We actually found a stray kitten and adopted him much like the Yamadas did. (Although we have a house, so we never had the "can't keep pets" problem.)

Man I clicked on the forum link expecting to see people trashing this manga, instead I see as many crazies as the reviewer! I'm not the type to find something entertaining when it's only redeeming feature is it's "cuteness", so I must ask, could you even compare this to a piece of literature? And if you absolutely had to, what book would it be? See Spot Run? Jeez, this was obviously made for children, very very small children who themselves are jsut starting to understand the reason they can't jsut urinate everywhere like the kitty in the story.
I mean, yeah I like anime and manga but this stuff is for babies, grow up people! The artwork isn't even any good!!!! And the "baby talk" you all speak of is probably because this is one of those books written in JUST katakana or whatever - aka for children to learn how to read japanese!
Man I will never understand this section of the anime culture...

What is wrong about liking a series that is G rated and is watchable for all ages?
It's a slice of life story about a cat and her family. Nothing wrong with that and some of the episodes are rather heart warming.
Trust me, I don't say very often, if at all these days. I've been watching anime for nearly ten years and by no means, am I a kid anymore.
And comparing literature to Chi's Sweet Home isn't very fair, since this is a fictional series that is meant to entertain. So what if it's not like The Art of War? It's anime, it's made for fun (for the consumers) and for profit from the companies, actors and author.
Not everything in life has to be entirely serious all the time, twenty four seven.

I may only be speaking for myself, but I thought the baby-talk was pretty cute. It wasn't used every time Chi "talked" or even close; I think there are just a few key words (like "scarewy") that Chi tended to mispronounce. So I found it pretty easy to get used to/overlook. And it's such a nice looking book, with all the colour!! I wasn't bothered by the flipping at all (and I'm thinking of getting another copy for a cat-loving relative of mine who doesn't know a thing about manga).

I love Chi's Sweet Home! I was extremely disappointed that vertical decided to flip the mana. It's not that hard to read the original way. Heck, I even see little kids reading manga from right to left format. But eh, I have all 6 volumes in Japanese and I can read through them and understand 98% of it. I think I'm gonna stick with the Japanese print of this series because I don't support flipped manga. )X I'm glad that they at least kept it all in color like the Japanese manga.
