Well, I made this post for 2 reasons:
1.- To inform of the new kanzenban edition manga (Which I will just copy/paste from livejournal's JUMP community since I am soooo lazy, and.. 2.- To ask other users opinions about this product (Perfect editions) For those wondering what would be the new Kanzenban edition after Hikaru No Go ends, its... *drums* Tennis No Oujisama (The Prince of Tennis), starting April with 2 volumes per month. I was dying inside since Hikaru No Go took so damn long of a time!!! With a volume per month instead of the usual 2 volumes per month it took like one and a half years to complete >.> The number of kanzens or even if the two-per month schedule is going to continue isn't confirmed (Since HikaGo kanzens began as 2 per month and then changed to one per month IIRC) but since the serie is 42 volumes long (Same as Dragon Ball) and DB was released in 34 kanzenban volumes, then the rough number of books for Prince of Tennis will be around the 34 mark. So yeah, thought, questions, rants, etc... feel free to do so. My thoughts... I would have prefered a 70s or 80s manga with the monochrome pages, but well TeniPuri is cool, I think I'll probably buy some kanzens with color pages that aren't online. I can't remember the source.. I think I had read it on animenewsnetwork or a spanish site MISIONTOKYO but I cant recall correctly. And no, its not an april's fool joke. here you can see the cover for the volumes http://www.jbook.co.jp/p/p.aspx/3948370/s/~6b19cf0ce http://www.jbook.co.jp/p/p.aspx/3948371/s |

Anyway, my question is the following, would you guys buy a Perfect Edition of a manga here in the US?? Its not like the US has not have any Kanzenban edited, IIRC Silent Mobius is being done in the Kanzenban edition is just Viz with its Shonen Jump line that hasn't quite provided the fans with these editions, either VizBig Edition which is a less-price edition, or the 3in1 Edition (Like ONE PIECE) which is more like a Bunkoban and even the Collector's Edition which was just a tease of how the kanzenban would be. |

I would certainly buy one if it was something that I wanted; I was actually thinking about it today. I totally agree with a 70s or 80s era manga being released this way though. Actually, I was thinking that The Super Dimension Fortress Macross manga, which may actually date from the early 90s if I recall, wouldn't be a bad fit for perfect collection release.
Interestingly enough, my librarian referenced Kanzenban omnibuses. She made a reference to 'the Japanese are making phone book sized comics!' As a side note, it's often a bit funny when I try to ask her about anything related to anime or manga. |

Kanzenban are kinda nice and I'm collecting the Dutch Dragonball edition, but I like the American onmnibuses as well, mostly because they're cheap.

I think they should release Patlabor in omnibus-sized editions. Mostly because it is rather slow paced and only picks up around the third volume. Unfortunately most people couldn't afford to stick around that long when it was first released in the US. And since Viz announced that new Shonen Sunday line, I think it would be feasible to release Patlabor, Lum, Touch, or Ghost Sweeper Mikami in this edition. God, I'd know I'd buy ANY of those, I've already set money aside for Cross Game. (although I might be the only one who wants them...I hope not)

As far as I know the only one with a Kanzenban edition out there is Touch, the others just have bigger than usual editions, but don´t include all color pages, which is a shame since Lum color pages are so hard to get for color page hunters, I have seen people pay REALLY GOOD CASH for old Weekly Shonen Sunday magazines containing UY color pages.

Well, even the black and white American omnibus editions are nice in my opinion, even if they don't have the full color beauty of a true Kanzenban. I would like to see Viz redistribute Steam Detectives to be honest, and I think that's a pretty good way to do it. The series isn't exactly that long.

I think Kanzenban editions would be the best way to release old school manga, especially longer ones. I mean, if they were to release something like Touch or Urusei Yatsura, they might as well release the the version with less volumes, right?
As for Kanzenbans of newer series..that's basically what VizBig is doing, isn't it? I wouldn't double dip on a series to get them, even if they have extra content and fancy new cover art, but if it's a series I've never read before, I think that's the ideal way to collect it (like I'm doing with the VizBig Vagabond). |
