Dr. Sado, a woman? Blasphemy!

He's a squat, befuddled guy with a love for sake during operation! I couldn't picture a woman being as goofy.

Also, I cant imagine the new Yamato anime being very good, without Leiji Matsumoto to guide it.

A helluva lot more people couldn't imagine Starbuck being a chick in the new Battlestar Galactica; so much so that death threads were issued. Yet look at it know; they've been made complete retards out of, and rightfully so.

And....Returner....was one hell of a campy ass film... Typical "so bad it's good" B-Movie bonanza...

The Always: Sunset on Third Street movies were pretty good though.

Perhaps, but I think it's easier to transform a badass guy into a badass woman than a short, goofy drunk guy into a short, goofy drunk woman.

Why choose Dr. Sado, of all characters? Even Shima would make more sense, because then they can change the dynamic from Kodai and Shima competing for Yuki to Shima and Yuki competing for Kodai.

Also, I noticed that, for some reason, Sanada is no longer the chief science officer, and is instead a "battle unit commander". Are they sure they didn't mean Nanbu or Kato?

ok, Aihara is now Uhura from Star Trek, Yuki is a Black Tiger and Sado is now an alcoholic Female doctor... I'm glad the female ratio of Yamato has tripled but I hope they make at least a decent movie, and this applies too to the Nish revival project. Shocked

As long as Dr. Sado remains a boozing alcoholic in the end, I'm good... but yeah, this was one role they could have gone over the top with with the right actor (or in this case actress) in place. We will have to see... this one role could make or break the movie.

Whether it'll be a good adaptation of its source material or not (which I couldn't comment on, since I've never seen the anime), I feel pretty confident in saying it's going to do very, very well at the box office because of Kimura alone. He'll be bringing in tons of fans who may otherwise have no particular interest in a live-action film adaptation of a classic sci-fi anime. *raises hand*

On a side note, too bad the female co-star is the expressionless Sister Angela from the One Pound Gospel J-drama-- though maybe she'll be more interesting as this character.

Oh, Sanada is the chief science officer again, after all.

I wonder if they'll keep his detachable, explosive limbs.

All the Japanese are angry.
http://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/cm/main?d=20091003-00000004-dal-ent&s=points&o=desc
"Live-action DRAGON BALL"
"Do not insult Reiji Matsumoto"
"An ultimate trashy film"
"Kodai is Kimutaku?"
"Yamato submergence"
"SMAP is bothersome."
"I do not understand the reason why Kimutaku is lionized."
"Dr.Sado is Takashima? This movie is already over."
"A producer and a person of the advertising agency are pitiful."
"Please stop it."

etc

I'm really more concerned about the new animated series.

I mean, Final Yamato was already enough as it is. In fact, anything after Farewell was arguably too much.

The Daily Sports newspaper reports that 80% of the scenes will incorporate the "latest computer graphics technology" to recreate space

Japanese CG technology as far as live-action movies go is more primitive than Jurassic Park's. It will look terrible, it probably will be terrible, and I hope all the bad things in the world happen to them. Hate hate hate hate hate hate.

Were they actually using REAL technology, it'd be comparable to Transformers 2 or Star Trek in animation quality, which it won't.

I'll disagree there. Farewell/Arrivederci spawned the Yamato II TV series which was my favourite of all the Yamato/Star Blazers storyline. That said, I didn't mind the follow-on movies, although Yamato III was far too much of a slightly modified rerun of the original series, and Final spoiler[bringing Okhita back from the dead cheapened the significance of his sacrifice in the original series.]

Yeah, but Farewell had the manliest end one could have.
