I wish someone would license the rest of Hellsing Ultimate. I NEED IT.

This is the first time I've been surprised by Haruhi S2's DVD sales. I seriously expected the final volume of Endless Eight would have higher sales due to the conclusion of the arc, but instead it has continued the trend of every volume of Haruhi S2 selling less than the previous volume. Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody sold more than twice as much in its first week, to say nothing of comparison with first season sales. I have to at least expect that the final 2 DVDs (Sighs) will do somewhat better. Kadokawa did at least manage to accomplish something with their admitted marketing gimmick: they got nearly half the normally obsessed with completeness otaku who bought the first volume of S2 to avoid the rest of the season entirely. Finally a treatment method with some measure of success in curing otaku of their bad habits.

I don't think I can express how happy I am that Queen's Blade sold relatively poorly.
And lol, still 10k+ for Haruhi despite Endless Eight. That's more than practically any other series this year other than Hetalia and a few others. |

Did you seriously expect otherwise? No matter how awful, a second season of Haruhi would still sell pretty well to devoted fans. It could have been animated by Studio Deen's B Team and still have good sales. One bad move is almost never enough to kill off a successful franchise, and Haruhi was phenomenally successful. The marked drop in sales during the course of E8 should be enough to indicate that it was more effective in generating hot air online than in actually generating sales. |

Well this is Japan the land of the otaku. Even if something was dreafully awful, they would still buy the DVD's are merchandise to complete their collection if they liked the first season enough.
Of course transfer the series over to R1 where people aren't as forgiving and obsessive and then we'd more likely than not see a true reflection of the quality of Haruhi's second season... Slightly gutted to see Kimi ni Todoke didn't do better. Personally one of my fav series of the season. Same for Hellsing Ultimate and DTB 2, although both have Blu-ray releases unlike the previously mentioned series, so that could be a factor of lower DVD sales. |

I completely agree with this. Well, sort of; heh. Kimi ni Todoke my favourite Anime that is currently airing (so that includes shows like Cross Game and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood), but yet it gets such low sales? And Haruhi Season Two still manages to get over ten thousand? I'm not just guttered, I'm furious. This is the sort of news that makes me need anger management classes (well, actually I don't, but man is my blood boiling). |

Still? People are still complaining about Haruhi? I could've sworn that was dying.

Eternally. I never thought I'd meet something worse, according to my tastes, than Asura Cryin'. That's when I came across Endless 8 and Hetalia Axis. |

Regarding the endless "Endless Eight" debate, I think it's a shame you all assume people hated it as much as you did, but bought it anyway because they're mindless sheep. People have different tastes and expectations. I honestly enjoyed the arc a great deal, as did several friends of mine, so it's not impossible that the people buying the DVDs enjoyed it too. It all worked out for the best in the end, anyway, with the Vanishment film and all. Why keep complaining?
With so many people also hating K-ON! for being what it is - the anime equivalent of an Enid Blyton book - perhaps it's time to wonder if KyoAni just aren't for you? |

While there are certainly people that hate K-On for what it is I wouldn't be surprised to learn there are just as many who hate it for people putting it on a pedestal and it being recommended to them under the false pretenses of an unarguable masterpiece like so many Kyoani anime of old. Honestly if a group of people keeps consistently putting things up on a pedestal (i.e Kyoani anime) you can't be surprised when eventually critically minded people start to throw the internet post equivalent of a tomato at it let alone the trolls that are going to sense an opportunity when all but handed it by something like Endless Eight. This whole poor Kyoani thing doesn't click with me though. They've been held up for so long as this esteemed and flawless production studio (whether justifiably so or not is up to the individual) and sometimes obnoxiously so by fans on both sides of the Pacific that when the reality of their imperfection starts to show through all the more blatantly with incidents like Endless Eight you can't blame people for wanting to point it out and discuss it. People need to remember to that it's only recently that people on the internet started to backpedal from the rabid "convert the unbelievers to Haruhiism" attitude of the first season (that's how it honestly felt to me at times...like a crusade) to this new position of "it's what they do so leave them alone" of the current era. It almost certainly takes time for people to adjust from such a proud attitude to such a humble plea from fans of this studio. At least that's the way I see it. To me it appears that all that's happening is that Kyoani anime are finally being exposed to the same level of criticism (sometimes overly harsh) that the rest of the anime industry collective has to contend with in the western fandom. I say it's about damn time and welcome to reality. |
