Just wondering there are people out there who would watch anime because its anime. Would you watch it raw, subbed, even dubbed. Would you watch it even if its the 150 episode and you had not seen any of the episodes before that. Also not matter the quality. And no matter if you have seen that episode 30 times already. Im just wondering. Hope this isnt a stupid question.

When something's enjoyable, wouldn't it be a reason to watch "no matter what"?

Have you ever watched a television show after its run a few seasons? Found a music group you liked despite not knowing they've had 3 albums released before?

I'm curious to know if you're trying to target those who watch just because it's there. That's going to be difficult to do, given many of us are out to "test the waters" looking for a new series.

In fact, I just did this yesterday. To say I watch "just to watch" wouldn't suffice here. I'm always looking for new animation to watch and will quickly dismiss anything I'm not interested in, regardless if it's anime.

I would pity anyone who entertains themselves with anime only.

No. I love anime, even though I don't watch it as much as I used to. But I'm not so blind that I'm going to watch a raw, and sit there and just be entertained by the pretty pictures and not know what the hell is going on. Nor am I going to go and watch episode 178 out of a 300 episode series and not know what the hell is going on. I'm not going to watch a series from a genre I can't stand just because it's anime. I like to exercise some standards.

A little, yes. For anime to be on television at all is something of a novelty, so when it is I will sometimes watch it out of curiosity, regardless; for example, Spirited Away was on the BBC (can't remember if it was 1 or 2) a while ago, and I watched it then pretty much because it was an anime movie that I'd heard of. Similarly, when channels like POP Girl and Kix! show Mew Mew Power and Medabots I'm fairly likely to watch them, partly because they're anime. (Though I'm reasonably fond of both series). It's not always the case, though; when there used to be that channel that showed GitS: SAC and Cowboy Bebop I never stayed up to watch them. Maybe they just didn't appeal enough (to make me stay up late, anyway).

Alright, dude, you really need to read the rules:

Teh Rules wrote:

Since joining, I've deleted several of your posts for one-lining and listing. I was hoping you'd notice their disappearances and realize that you might've been doing something that actually led to said deletion, but it looks like you haven't.

When posting opinions and asking questions, we encourage you try be as detailed as possible. You ask all these questions and expect people to answer, but you won't even answer them yourself? Why do you watch anime? Do you think it's the "greatest medium ever?" What's your opinion on the never-ending mess that is Shounen Jump anime?

If you ask questions and present your opinions with actual thought and detail, you'd be surprised at how much more discussion it generates as well as letting everyone here know a little more about you, personally.

Now, do it.

If you were to say " watch animes no matter what's going on with your life" then I'd probably want to discuss this. But talking about raw, dubbed or subbed seems like talking about fantasy since we most of the time have all of that options available.

I watch anime just like I watch Western entertainment, if I don't enjoy it then I'm not going to watch it. But I wouldn't watch anime raw simply because I don't know Japanese, so it would be kind of pointless. If I knew Japanese then I would be willing to watch it raw (though I'd like to avoid it when I could), but until that day I'm happy watching subs and dubs. As for the whole 'watching an anime starting at episode 150' thing, I would say it depends. First of all I rarely bother with anime that long, but if it were something like Detective Conan then I wouldn't mind. Its usually one of those shows you can just pick up and watch when ever. But I would prefer starting at the beginning. And when it comes to re watching it depends on if I like the anime. If its an anime I really like then I'll re watch it plenty of times. I can't even begin to count how many times I've watch Cowboy Bebop.

I do watch it dubbed. I think that's the best way to watch it. If I must, I will watch stuff subbed as well. I probably wouldn't watch something raw but I've never actually been unable to at least find something fansubbed so this hasn't really been an issue.

No. Definitely not. Generally speaking, most shows that long aren't that good and so I don't really have any desire to see them and even if there was something long I actually wanted to see, I'd start from the beginning. The only exception is if it was completely episodic.

No, by the 30th time I would probably have no desire to watch it again. I'd watch something a number of times over the course of a few years but only if it was something I really liked and even then, I doubt I'd ever watch something more than a dozen times.

If it was something I had at least a mild interest in seeing then maybe. I'm not going to see it just because it's on TV though.

Well 'anime' isn't really a medium. Animation is. Anime is just the name given to productions from a certain area using the medium of animation.

Animation as a medium has it's pros and cons. It can be relatively easy to create various special effects and other fantastical elements. This kind of thing is easier to blend with humans as well because neither look fully realistic. The drawback however is that even the most minor human elements, all the tiny little movements and body language, take a great deal of effort to recreate. Whereas in live action this stuff is captured with no effort at all. Animation is also far easier to stylize or incorporate unique visuals into. Overall I wouldn't say animation is superior. In fact if I had to choose I'd say it's inferior to live action since at least given a sufficient effects budget live action can overcome many of it's limitations. Certainly though, both have their place.

As for whether anime is the best thing ever, no it's not. Animation is a rather underused medium. There is certainly some noteworthy stuff but overall, I think people have done more with other mediums.

Those are some great questions thewrll. To me after watching over 225 different animes and owning over 100 titles, I must say that anime drawings style/quality and even animations does have an extent to appear less apealing; however, getting to the actual bits and peices, it really does not matter. To me a great anime simply has to have a nice plot/interesting characters/ something i can look forward to/ wish for the best/ and or relate and it is all good for me. Yes thats seems very rare, but surprisngly enough it is not. Recently I've watched BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad and Kaikan Phrase and I loved every minute of both series beyond belief. I've come to actualy like the Kaikan Phrase characters and story more than the newer animated Beck. Nontheless, both were fantastic.
So getting down to your questions, I would watch anime no matter what even if it has 150 episodes if the series apeals to me. I've also recently watched Touch and that series had about 100 episodes, so mean the lenght is not a problem for me. It is the story and the characters that mostly need to be well thought out and created.

No, "no matter what" is very broad. The answer to your question varies from people's preferences. Personally, if the quality of an animation is low, I can tell how horrible it looks like, even if it has a "great" storyline, REALLY bad or poor animation/graphics turns me off, turns most people off. [Still...it depends.]

It all depends on which person you're asking, some people are really into old anime, some people enjoy Comedy Anime more than others [Hayate lol I couldn't really get too into it.], some people are into Hentai...ETC. I myself have purchased many old anime like Bubblegumcrisis 2040, Escaflowne, Trigun, Fushigi Yugi etc. [These were very memorable to me as a child.]

What's so outrageous about watching it dubbed? I'd think that raw would be the "even this method" choice, since most people can't understand it. I can watch raws, but I usually don't unless I'm involved with subbing them. The most I've ever watched raw was eps 40-51 of Sugar Sugar Rune and 25-49 of Pretty Cure Splash Star. Possibly 25-49 of Yes! Pretty Cure 5 and its sequel in the future.Since a lot of Japanese dialogue isn't terribly original or creative, I find that I enjoy something more with good subs than I would in raw.

On the other hand, there are some shows that have been fansubbed that I won't watch, out of dislike for the subbing groups in question.

I wouldn't jump into the middle of a long series, even if it were episodic. I'm a completionist and I like to watch from beginning to end. I don't bother with anime on TV -- between DVDs, downloads, and legal streams, I'm never lacking for new things to watch or rewatch. I've watched some shows 3-4 times and many shows twice. Same episode 30 times... I don't know about that, although there are a few episodes of Love Hina and Fruits Basket that are probably approaching double digits.

I don't watch Anime just because it's Anime. I have learned my lesson on that one. (Can you say Golden Boy?) I will give a show another look because it is anime, but there has to be decent charterers, a solid story, and at least serviceable animation.

I would not watch it raw because after a few minutes I would get frustrated that I could not understand what's happening. I prefer dubbed because I am mildly dyslexic and sub titles are difficult for me to keep up with.

I don't like to jump into the middle of a series if I can help it but I have done once or twice. Normally after watching that episode I would go find the beginning before I went any further.

As for rewatching, I'll rewatch anything if I like it enough.

I do agree with Tony K in that I would like to hear your views.
