[Haré+Guu (TV)
since the previous Hare+Guu thread is 6 years old I decided it would be better to make a new thread. What is so special about this anime that make people rate the series so high? Do a big majority of people who only see 2 episodes of a series rate their animes as "Seen All?" The series itself (i've only seen half of the first oav and none of the second oav) is by far one of the most templated series I have ever seen. Every episode follows a format of "'random' topic or event at start" causes Guu to spoiler[terrorize Hare's] life in some shape or form. After just a few episodes it gets old. Because every episode is just the same format. Just another "random" joke. Since I made a vow years ago to always finish an anime that I hand-picked out myself, I still watched this from start to end. It just took a couple of months of course. I do enjoy the OAV "a lot" more than the series. Part of it might be the fact that the OAV is 6 episodes, so they can get by with more "random" (when you thought the randomness it had wasn't enough), and less on the plot (whatever plot the series really had of course). For the series I'm looking at a rating of a 5 most likely, only being brought up by the Atmosphere and the music. If it weren't for the decent opening song the series could see a 4, if it didn't have the atmosphere a "3". For the first OAV I will not give a rating until I've seen the last 3 episodes. I prefer to see all before I rate (most of the time). As I stressed earlier, I don't get how the series is rated so highly. I've seen bottom 500 anime spoiler[monkey garbage] that I enjoyed more than this. I know this is only my opinion, but over the years my opinion has helped my friends find anime they liked. But I guess it is still just my opinion. I could foresee people who are into randomness rating it 6-7 at max. But 7.8? Certainly there are a lot better random comedies out there. It's been so long since I watched Guu, all I really remember is finding it A) funny (what was my sense of humor like all those years ago??) and B) ...
...That's just it; there's not much else there. Perhaps something about the non-sequitur, off-the-wall, force-of-nature character was new and different then. It's certainly not something that would work now... So basically I'm going to refresh my memory and watch a couple of old episodes. Aoi Sakaraba, I can hardly argue with your assessment despite initially finding it in some sort of illogical contempt. I'll get back to you. |

I liked that series. It was funny and it has a great theme song.
