Holy crap. No mercy whatsoever.
Don't mess with the Square Enix. |

It would be understandable if they were sued if 80% of the footage came from Final Fantasy, which was what I had presumed, but not:
I guess it's not so surprising considering how they've also sued cosplay outfitters (while not providing any real alternatives). |

Watch the video and you'll understand. It's a blatant frame by frame copy of the Tifa church fight scene. It really is nothing short of plagiarism.

Still don't get what they were thinking...its got a few differences but for the most part its the same.

What I don't understand is why the producers of the music video just didn't give Square-Enix a phone call and request permission? At the very least, they could have pitched the idea that they wanted to "pay homage" (snort) to the Advent Children movie with their "Tifa church scene" riff.

I'm still confused as to how the producers could even imagine getting away with this. You'd think the producers and the like would know the laws; really, it's more common sense than anything else. The scenes were almost completely taken from the church scene, with only some dancing and props being different.

YES! Anyways. Wow , I can understand the whole thing to the T but it still amazes me. I bet no one will ever try to do that again (at least as far as SE is concerned) |

At least give them some credit for partially adapting it to live-action. Doesn't make the production less of a crap heap. |

Everyone knows the Moonlight Sonata, so it's not like they're trying to slip one by anybody. Have you never heard of sampling? Simply shooting it in LA is an impressive achievement, and to be perfectly honest, their version might be better. They improved on the original in all sorts of little ways, plus some parts are better simply for using real people instead of uncanny mannequins. Anyway, the small-print at the beginning says it's based on Advent Children, so the Korean agency was being up front about the tribute. I just don't understand why they didn't seek permission before doing this. |

Here's how you pay homage without direct scene for scene plagarism:

When I first read the article, I was bothered and felt like Square Enix over-reacted - if they didn't reuse the actual footage, then they were just copying ideas?
Then I watched the video and I can understand SE's problem. It is practically frame by frame the same thing in live action and someone could potentially mistake it for something SE produced as a promotion or something. Sometimes I think certain copyright laws are too strict (is this video depriving SE of profits?), but seeing as this could certainly lead to brand confusion (someone unaware may think SE ripped off of Ivy), I can understand SE's position. |

don't appeal in Korean if you are not 90% sure that you will win. |
