"OVA stands for Over View (overview) Animation, it is just a bunch of important stuff from the series jumbled up together to create either a summary of the story for those who have no time to sit through the entire series in a normal run"
"OAV or Original Animation Video, it provides the fans with most of the time a sequel, but sometimes a prequel to the certain series. The story is different, the animation quality is usually juiced up and the production staff usually puts more effort in it, because they have time when it comes to OAV compared to a TV series where they have to meet deadlines" source http://www.animesou.com/?p=427 read it because what i post here is just a summary... so what do you guys think since ANN only has oav what ANN has is anime#601 see there >>> it said OAV (compilation) my point is can't we add ova |

First, fix your English, please.
Second, don't start a thread by quoting some rants and quarrels. The first paragraph you copied is complete rubbish; the second paragraph, while partially correct, has missed many important facts and examples. animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/lexicon.php?id=35 animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=294197#294197 Some additional info: 1. OVA is used more often in Japan because of AV = Adult Video or Audio/Video electronics; on the other hand, OAV is used more often in Anglosphere because ova = plural of ovum. 2. The term "OAD" (original animation DVD) is valid in Japanese but makes little sense in English because in Japanese "video" (ビデオ) means video tape only, while in English it can be on any medium. |

Speaking for myself I've noticed more people opting to use OVA, especially when spoken. Presumably this is because it can be pronounced as a two-syllable word, unlike OAV.

I thought OAD was pioneered or at least championed by Kodansha.
