I was always a bit curious as to why they stoped showing Witch Hunter Robin on cartoon network, i thought it was a good show. As did most people i knew. anyone know if there was a specific reason or can give me some info on the season. like how many episodes there are etc..

Witch Hunter Robin is a relatively old show that wasnt a major blockbuster, so it dosnt suprise me that its not being shown much after its run.

It had exactly 26 episodes. Only the season. Its still available on DVD though (I own the boxset myself, its a great show)

Nothing really 'happened to it'. It came out, aired on TV here, got a fairly positive response. End of story. Aside from a tiny handful of super popular exceptions, an anime will only really be played a few times at most on TV before fading away.

If you're looking to buy it you should use ANN's encyclopedia. They list the prices for a bunch of sites.

Actually there was some type of issue with it. In it's first run they only aired a few episodes of it and then cut it. Later it came back and finished it's run once and never came back. I suspect, like Moribito, the show was too smart for the average Adult Swim fan.

As for the collection the Anime Legends version can be had for arround $30-35.

Laughing Well there was a bit more too it than the average anime but i think thats one of the reasons i liked it. and yea most anime only runs once maby twice if their lucky but look at Fooly Cooly? that was one of the most random shows i ever saw, didn't know of much of a fanbase (that i was aware of) and it lasted much longer if i remember correctly.

I kinda doubt the problem was that it was "too smart." I didn't see past episode 2, because I found it to be awful. The character designs were ugly and the animation used this bland grey/black-on-black color scheme indicative of the worst faux-seriousness of the 1990's. The plot wasn't terribly compelling either, as a major twist is blatantly obvious from the start and the whole thing seems like a kind of X-files one-off with better action scenes. "Better" is stretching it too, sometimes. The bad guy of the first episode had the power to trip people, something that is impossible to take seriously. This was mocked by AS' black and white cards well before they got a rep for the friendly rivalry idiot fans interpret as them being out to destroy anime.

In general, it just seemed unremarkable and dull. I HAVE been told it gets better, but I never stuck around to watch...

well maby those past 2 episodes may have changed your mind (doubtfull) though everyone is entitled to their opinion as you say some of its qualities are very bad. but i was also and x-files fan so your analogy dosent help for me lol but again as i have said in the past "to each his own" as for the artwork every artist has his own style. therefor the designs are going to be different depending on the show, and/or artist working on it. so some may like it and again wsome may not. hats a challege all shows face.

so to some its a good show -->myself and to others -----> BellosTheMighty not so much.

Basically they use the witch of the week approach for the first half and then the story kicks in, and no it's probabally not exactly what you're expecting. The witch of the week approach was marginally predictable but actually has the secondary effect of developing all the characters very nicely so the story hits harder. Also I loved the series' style of animation and character designs. In addition, the series has an excellent soundtrack which enhances the series' moody atmosphere.

As for why it's too smart for people, some people just don't have the patience to sit through episodic or character driven things. I wouldn't call this the show's fault but the viewers' personally, but it's unfortunate that people miss out. Seems like a lot of AS viewers have an awful case of ADD most of the time though, judging by what gets the most ratings. Shows that take longer to get going, even though they might also be good, almost always get the shaft. Sad

I really did like Witch Hunter Robin, but from what I've seen Kruszer has the correct theory on this. Although there were some people that really enjoyed the series, there were allot of people who thought that it was boring. And the philosophy of adult swim is, if it doesn't get us a crap load of viewers like Inuyasha and FMA did, then it's not worth our time. I wish adult swim would run it again, at least once, but that's not going to happen. But I think Witch Hunter Robin just didn't get the proper run that it deserves. If I remember correctly it was thrown into a pretty crappy time slot and most people didn't even know that it existed.

I'm of the mind that the second half is only slightly less like a witch-of-the-week formula than the first half. Yes, there was a major change in the status quo, but afterwords, most characters go back to what they were doing before, except Robin, who does a lot of hiding.

Also, just because it has slow, deliberate pacing doesn't mean it's that much smarter of a show.

agreed it is a shame that it wasn't run very long. i think it ran more than one cycle through the season. i didn't check and it was a long time ago...i digress.

i haven't heard anyone put this anime down so harshly as bellos did. but hey i usually stick around and watch an anime thru to the finish. regardless if the targeted audience is much younger than my age. usually the writers throw in high(er) brow humor mixed in with the low brow majority humor and that kinda keeps you linked in. not that i don't like a little low brow humor myself every once and a while.

as for the speed of the story line. 2 eps usually won't get you into a story line of almost any anime that is half a season (13 eps) let alone a full season (26 eps). that'd be like watching the first 5 minutes of "perfect blue" and stop watching cause you think it's all about pop idol singers for teeny boppers or something. which we all know it it not. side note...didn't full metal alchemist have a slow developing plot line??? anyhooo....

i think adult swim has drastically changed its target audience, and in my mind, for the worse. i have stopped watching it since family guy leads it off and then those silly 15 minute shows come on. and every once in a while you will get a great short show like aqua teen was in the beginning seasons, quite hilarious, the jokes get old very quickly when rehashed into new shows and even lower brow humor than it already was. i think any hope of "monster" making any kind of run on adult swim in the near future is all but lost. it develops quite slowly bellos so you probably wouldn't like it.

well that's my two cents.

ps to BellosTheMighty i'm not trying to pick a fight with you or anything. just tossing in a few pennies to the discussion.

I also usually finish everything I start, unless I find it completely repulsive or exceeding boring and I enjoy a wide variety of genres. Usually the ones in my trash can are cutesy children's crap, high school yaoi/yuri comedies, the really disgusting hentai titles, or lame, cliched, harem trope. Witch Hunter Robin was none of these, in fact it was pretty much exactly what I most prefer in anime minus the formulaic approach. Something serious, dramatic, and fairly realistic with a bit of mystery.

I liked the show but I felt the final episode was a bit of a let down. And parts of the second half did drag.
