I've never been to an anime convention before, and I can't wait to go to Ikasucon. Does anyone have any advice for a first-timer? I'm going to be seventeen when I go so I'm gonna have my Mommy and two friends. I went to G-fest last year, but I know this is going to be way different. I don't know how much money I should save to bring or any of that. Thanks in advance to all who reply. Luv ya! ^^

I found this thread over at the (former) Anime on DVD forums to be helpful when I attended my first con. It's gotten rather long by now (12 pages), but I definitely think it's worth a read. Hope that helps.

Hm. It's kinda hard for me to judge, since I've never been to Ikasucon. I've been to other cons, though, and Ikasu is supposed to be relatively small. I'd say save at least $400--$200 for the dealers' room and the rest for food, emergency, hotel room, etc. Though your mom will probably take care of most of the really big things, saving some extra to chip in for food and the like would be a good move.
As for other things to know, it'd be nice to know what advice and such you've already gotten ^^. |

ikasu is a nice one, its very intimate, and has lots of room, gets about 2-500 people, so its bigger then many animeclubs, Its in fort wayne indiana and with the new rennovations downtown there is lots of old churches and historical archetecture if you like that sort of thing, and its not real bad distance wise getting from one side of town to the other, the cost at the door for a three day is about 35 dollers to 40 they have most of the things that larger cons do like big name guests and a rave as well as a masqurade on saterday.
there are skits online at youtube from the past few years if you want to know some of the people involved. signed Jeremy manga1 |

Although having fun is important, personal safety should be your number one goal though. All it takes is one spiked drink or hard blow to one's head to renden them unconscious.
Also, I recomend brining extra funds just in case of a emergancy. They do come up and you have to be prepared for a sitution like that. |
