B-List? HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME IS NOT B-LIST!
Frankly, it is the best animated Disney movie of all time.

I like that movie a lot myself but it isn't exactly unfair to call it B-list. It isn't one of their revered classics or anything.

Muddled plot that has little bearing on overall series
what? not only is it setting up KH3 it also answers questions from previous games in the series (for example the reason for organization 13 as well as an explanation for the member's names).
its also frustrating when people complain that the plot makes no sense. while that may be true if you haven't played previous games in the series that's hardly the games fault and 3D at least makes an effort to explain things to new players.

The only place I ever see the plot occasionally suffer is in the Disney Worlds. This plot is essential to moving the series forward (just like Chain of Memories), and it's possibly the best story of every portable KH to date.
However, I'll agree that this game really only deserves a B- to B rating, and this is coming from a longtime, hardcore KH fan. After beating the game three days after I got it, I haven't really touched it much, unlike pretty much every other KH game out there, it's really missing that draw of postgame content. I'm not saying that it isn't a great game (it's probably one of the best on the 3DS so far, the only other 3DS game I think is better is SMT: Devil Survivor Overclocked), it's just missing a reason to go back and keep playing. However, I do know I'll eventually go back and replay the game on critical (first time was proud).

I wish more was said about the game's story and plot, and how that fit into the larger KH plot / universe.

If you are playing Kingdom Hearts for the plot I think you are doing it wrong. And I think you are mistaking KH3D with another game that did that. The names and reason for O13 were explained before KH3D.

it fits into the plot by taking place between KH2 and KH3, its basically the set up game in the same way CoM set up KH2. can't say much about the plot other than whats already been mentioned cause saying anymore would be a spoiler.

You know, I wish that Kingdom Hearts would start to move away from Disney. It seems burdened by having to incorporate it now, and they have already tried to move away from final fantasy. I wouldn't mind keeping some, but also have some final fantasy based worlds, and also some more purely original content.

The series's main villain actually appears across the entire the game and even is a boss alongside two other returning bosses. The only who is not fought is the old guy voiced by Leonard Nimmoy who was already fought in Birth by Sleep. Did the reviewer stop playing in the last world?

I wonder what new movies would classify as A class according to the reviewers.

I don't want to come across as a guy who complains when a game he likes isn't given an amazing review, because that would make me an entitled snit. However, the game reviews on ANN have really been getting to me, given that they stand in stark contrast to most critics, as well as their faulty structuring and inconsistency with what they're stating and the final overall grade. I would urge people to play this game, as well as "Lollipop Chainsaw", which I believe this same critic smashed.

not sure why people say this? the disney stuff is the games gimmick it couldn't really stand on its own with out the disney stuff to fill the majority of the game.

To be honest, I felt that they've moved too far away from Disney. With 1 and a bit of 2 it still felt like the Disney elements were important parts of the story and world, now it just feels tacked on. I wish they had a more Disney feel because to me that's part of the game's appeal.

i think BBS did a good job with the disney worlds, but 3D prolly does the worst with them.

As the rules specficially state, you are allowed to disagree all you want, but you are still expected to be civil and respectful. Apparently some people rage hard if a reviewer doesn't 100% agree with them, even if they both like the game in the end. |
I think you missed the part where he says the game is good and gives it a B+

hahahaha wow. So a B and " this is one of the best Action RPGs in recent memory" is "ridiculously negative and nitpicking" now. Troll better, fellas.
I've never really heard anyone call Kingdom Hearts unpretentious, probably because that's absolutely, obviously false, but good review all around. Couldn't care less about the story and it sucks how the series has grown so far up it's own ass it's immediately clear they're phoning in all the FF and Disney stuff, but the Combat was always fun enough. The tiny, empty levels and general backtrackyness got the better of me, unfortunately.
