Has anyone seen this? i watched the trailer for it and it looks good and all but....the CGI seems a little wierd. It's based on anime charcters when CGI is ment for more realism, like the FF movie.

So how is it?

I just took a look at the trailer, and I must agree with you. The feel is rather awkward.

I have. It's is not exactly what I would call great. It had few similarities with the manga, but overall, had a stomachable storyline. Still worth seeing though.

I've seen the trailer as well, looks pretty good to me. I'll try to catch it if it premiers near me, otherwise I'll just pick up the DVD. There's also another Apleseed film/OAV, it was worth seeing as well but not great. Hope this one's better.

I've seen Appleseed : the CG is beautiful. It's a revolution.
But I was disapointed by the story which is very different from the manga, specially for the bioroids and Gaïa. Though, it's a very good anime, still worth seeing it. Definitly better than the awful OAV.

I wasn't disapointed by Appleseed's cel shaded animation (more like impressed) and the story wasn't too complexed either. It's moderate on action sequences, but you will be entertained.

I liked this one more than say..GITS Innocence.

i had such high expectations for this movie, and it was just extremely disappointing.
great movie if you love breathtaking shots of people walking down halls, driving down the street, etc. the few action sequences it had were cool, but it just doesn't hold up at all as a movie.

seriously, is it just out of fashion to make action packed anime movies?

Just saw the the trailer from a dvd and the cg looks awesome if somewhat weird. It definitely is reminiscent of ghost in the shell but I think the CG works in favorite of seperating the two title. The trailer was welll done and is close to most high productionn hollywood trailer. Can't wait to see it.

But, my question:
Is it worth taking a trip up one's own city and spending 1/2 the day and roughly $80 for train, food,
tickets, cabs (for 2) etc.? I am weighing it based on:

1)Total co$t -$70 Min. to $90+. Limited rel. Big citie$$$$$. Bummer.

2)Director -Shinji Aramaki. Never directed before, has done nice work, but maybe it's his time. (also worked on Astro Boy tv!) Hmmmm.

3)Manga based adaptation -Yes, but seemingly not faithful according to viewers/Shirow fans. Bummer.

4)animation quality/studio reputation - Eye catchingly nice, but still seems quite experimental and untraditional. Not likely to catch on anytime soon. Yet to research studio. Anyone?

5)Music-style of songs (Love orchestra scores!) -Supposedly all electronica groups/music that some who attended the Boston and Canada showings felt really was out of place/unsuitable. It works for the trailer, but hopefully some instrumental scoring inbetween for a balance.

It does have Shirow's endorsement, however, but mainly for this new fangled 'live-anime' for big screen stuff -which could be a plus.

It appears I'm answering my own question, but please chime in about these areas or others. Perhaps #1 says it all!
Boy, its tough when you finally have a chance to go see an anime on the big screen, only its not Oshi, Miyazaki, Otomo or Satoshi-Kon etc. -its all new! Everything about it -except its manga source.

Anyone know anything more? Seen it?
thanks.

I say it's worth it. When I saw the extended trailer at the 2004 eNerGy Anime and Gaming Festival it blew my (and the audiences) minds.

Crap, I just checked the theater listing for this one and it looks like I'll have to see it on DVD. This one isn't comming anywhere near Minnesota, limited releases are just evil. Evil or Very Mad

Well, there is still some hope for anime in the theaters. For 2005, ADV Films is planning to get some of their newly-imported anime titles in a much wider theatrical release than the limited releases that the other companies have been getting.

Here's hoping that it works, since anime really needs success in the American mass market to start growing and get more support.
