In the remake, characters just get knocked out when their names get written in the book.

Let me sum up how this thread will go:
"Awesome! I love Death Note."
"This is gonna suck!"
"This could be cool."
"They're not gonna be Japanese? Hollywood is so racist!"
But seriously...this could be cool. I hope it turns out decently.

*sigh*
The most I can hope for is that they don't screw with the storyline, unless it changes it more awesomely like the Japanese version did. Still...L not sounding like Alessandro Juliani in English will be the weirdest thing ever. He's so perfect for L. D:

I figure if they follow the original script this could be a good movie. If not then we it could go either way. I am excited to see where this is going.

wow... I would have expected Ergo Proxy, or Gunslinger Girl, but Death Note... (I'm pretty sure this will work) lol I can't wait till theres a huge controversy about using death notes in school because, they'll most likely probably have movie mechandice, (i.e the death note) lol
i really hope this won't be an otaku centered film, it would be great for mainstream success for a anime or i REALLY don't hope that they don't remake it into just a fangirl-for-all movie (i.e refernces to light and L yaoi) like what they did with twilight, (and it has had horrible reviews since) lol

And then I make a cynical response.
And then everybody proceeds to ignore me.

Oh hey I forgot the endless bitching and moaning about Zach Efron and/or Shia LaBeouf potentially being casted in it
At least Leonardo DiCaprio is too old to be considered for most of the main roles, so we can avoid that tired-ass line of complaining

I for one want to see him grinning evilly and laughing maniacally. I like Death Note, the but story is so universal that not having GLORIOUS NIPPON tied to it doesn't hurt it at all. I can only hope they make it a fun cat and mouse detective story, but with spontaneous heart attacks.

Hm...need more to go on. If previous adaptions are any clue, it won't be a good look.
