And now the movie only needs $100,000 more to pass the $50 million mark. I'd say its been a pretty successful movie so far.
Now I just have to make sure that the wait for the NA release doesn't kill me.

I just hope all those big numbers mean it's the best of the 3 movies and not just high sales due to accumulated tension after the long wait

I'm curious, does anyone have any figures on the budget for these movies?
They're no disney films, after all, we're not talking about millions and millions in budget... And these numbers are just box office, the back end bluray sales will be huge.
This one single movie could make more money than 95% of the anime output in Japan this year combined.

well as far as budget is concerned its probably somewhere under 15million us dollars, i mean akira had a budget of only 8 million dollars and it looks hella great. if this weekend goes well it will push easily over 50 million, but the cap off would be near, i dont know if it will get near 60 million, but great earnings all around.
