More than I could ever be bothered attempting to count.

Looking only at ones that are published at least monthly and that focus primarily on comics (i.e. ignoring for example light novel serialization magazines or things like Newtype that also run a few comics in them) and are currently in print, it's around 350. The number goes up if you count ones published seasonally or on irregular schedules.

Here's the Japanese Wikipedia page:
http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/日本の漫画雑誌
The list of male-targeted adult/erotic comic magazines is on a separate page:
http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/成人向け漫画雑誌の一覧

There's an English version but it's missing a lot:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_manga_magazines
According to this page, the number of manga magazines currently published in the United States is 6.

This is why I like the compiled per title manga books - you could never buy enough of the daily, weekly or monthly books to get everything correctly - especially with the publication changes - and then you have to know about name changes to the titles of the stories too, because they usually are forced to change the title slightly in order to put it into a new publication.

I am glad about the only ones I ever really read were the Shonen ACE titles.

This is great news! Both magazines have some good stuff, but there's too much fluff. Also, having Hero Tales in a monthly magazine will be so much better than a bi-monthly one. I wonder if that means Arakawa is planning on finishing FMA by June?

Wow, as much as I love manga, I don't think I could keep up with that many anthology magazines!

Unfortunately, there are many stories that appear in the daily, weekly, or monthly books that are never compiled into the volume publications. Mostly these are one-shots but occasionally there are not enough chapters of a title already published as a volume to justify another volume so those chapters don't get published. (Sequence and Yami no Matsuei come to mind as examples.)

If I remember right, that's why Mythical Detective Loki became Mythical Detective Loki Ragnorak midway through its run. A change in publications forced a name change.

[Enter a boatload of swears here]

I'm one of those folk that buys/reads the various Gangan mags.
I was semi-OK with this initially, until I discovered/realized a moment ago that Gangan Online = no furigana, INCLUDING series that I've been enjoying reading with furigana for the past while in Wing, like Tokyo Innocent, Chokotto Hime, & Aphorism.

Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

I am sooooo not happy with this...

Guess I gotta cross my fingers in the hopes that Joker will continue on the various other series with furigana, as well as be printed on paper similar to Wing and not Powered.
