I've been enjoying Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex on Adult Swim on cartoon network. The opening song is beautiful.
I want to buy the soundtrack but don't know the name of the song.

Does anyone know what the name of the intro song is they play in the intro on Adult Swim's GITS:SAC? It's a female voice, singing in Japanese I think. Hits a high point or chorus around the scene with the spider tanks on the stairs.

Thanks!

Hah. Doesn't everyone want to know that these days?

The song is "Inner Universe" by a singer named Origa. Actually, the song is not in Japanese, but Russian. I'm not sure why they chose a Russian song for the opening sequence of a Japanese show, but I'm glad they did. You're right to say that the song is amazing.

This reason that is so pricey is because it's a real import. You've probably seen less expensive import soundtracks on eBay or many online anime sellers, but these CDs are bootlegs; they're sold so cheaply because their cheap to produce and they steal money from the people who originally created the music.

However, I wouldn't recommend the import CDs because the CD is available legally in the US...kinda. Bandai included the soundtrack in the special edition of the first volume of the series, and domestic versions of anime soundtracks are far cheaper than imports (you can find most of them at Suncoast). As far as I know, Bandai hasn't released the "Ghost in the Shell" soundtrack independently of the DVD, but I'm sure you can get it somewhere if you look.

Thanks! Can you recommend a soundtrack? I've seen "Be Human" and this one: (pricey!)

If it costs that much, then you might as well get the Special Edition Volume 1 of the DVD. You get the anime and the music, and you still wouldn't have to pay more than $40. The original batch of CDs had some screw ups in track composition, but if you happen to get one, you can easily just send it to Bandai, and they'll replace it for you.

RightStuf has both domestic releases for sale individually. I think Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Original Soundtrack is the one Xoos would want.

If you're partial to Origa, you might want to know that she also sings the ED theme for the new anime Fantastic Children, a very interesting melody called "Mizu no madoromi". The single edition of this just came out, and there's a Russian version of the song on it, too. Apparently, Origa is very fond of singing in Russian - although she doesn't seem to be very good at the language.
