I'm sitting on about four shows right now (two Blu-ray sets and two DVD sets I purchased this morning) Nothing too crazy. I usually start a little stockpile of shows during the holiday season.

I thought you meant backlog to buy, not watch, since it is the retail forum. Misspost?

I still have DVDs sitting on my shelf from two years ago I haven't watched. ^^;; -goes to count exactly what's in my backlog-
-Six full series (Kanon, Boogiepop Phantom, This Ugly Yet Beautiful World, Piano, Diamond Daydreams, X TV), seven counting the FMP/FMP Fumoffu set I haven't finished watching yet that my brother borrowed/lost
-One movie (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time)
-Eight half-way completed series/watching-as-I-complete series (A Little Snow Fairy Sugar, Angelic Layer, Chobits, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, FMA/FMA Brotherhood, Vampire Knight, Cardcaptor Sakura)
Then I still have Soul Eater and Black Butler I'm watching via streams I still have to complete.

Backlog of purchased titles. Say you buy multiple shows from a sale and don't have time to watch them all. Who's got the most

Backlog of dvds I haven't watched or have only watched the first volume of: Basilisk, Black Blood Brothers, Evangelion 1.11, Evangelion EoE & D&R, Gilgamesh, L/R, Trigun, Air Tv, Texhnolyze, Pumpkin Scissors, Tsubasa (Collected memories BD), Shigurui, Afro Samurai, Persona pt 1, Gunbuster Vs. Diebuster, Patlabor 1 & 2, DBZ Kai Part 1, FMA Brotherhood Pt 1 & 2, Eureka Seven Movie, Blood Last Vampire, GITS 2.0, Noein, Le Chevalier D'Eon, Full Metal Panic (all three seasons), Claymore, Serial Experiments Lain, Planetes, Project Blue Earth SOS, Noir, School Rumble Season 2, Last Exile, Heat Guy J, The Third, Moon Phase, Rin Daighters of Mnemosyne.
I'm sure there are probably a few more right now that I can't remember. I didn't watch much anime over the summer, but continued to but a lot, so my backlog is pretty massive right now.

I'm sitting on 17 right now, 20 if you include Burst Angel, Welcome to the NHK, and Honey x Clover since I'm only missing pieces of them.
What I'm looking at right now:
Ah My Mini Goddess
Aria
Gankutsuo
Captain Tylor OVAs
Kurau Phantom Memory
Magic Knight Rayearth season 1
Magic User's Club TV + OVA
Saber Marionette Again
Saber Marionette J to X
Sailor Moon R
Sailor Moon S
Sailor Moon SuperS
Sailor Moon Movies (3)
To Heart
Witchblade
I buy a good amount every month, but only watch three or four shows in a month, so it's bound to add up. It doesn't bug me, though, since I like having a big backlog. Having a backlog means I something to look forward to once I'm done with a show, having a big one means I'll be busy for a while. When I don't have shows lined up, I tend to get a mini burnout until I can manage to get something new in.
Sure, I have a large collection and can rewatch something whenever I want, and I do that a lot as well, but it's not the same as having something new. Rewatching is for relieving past experiences when you're feeling nostalgic, and that's good, but it doesn't have that new car smell anymore. I love Haruhi Suzumiya and I've seen it 6 times in 3 different orders, and I'll probably end having watched at least 2 dozen more times when it's all said and done, but it can't replace the anxiousness I get to see something I never have. Even if a new show doesn't end up being as good as an oldie, it's still nice adding another notch to the belt.

Watch this when it's close to Christmas time. Since it's set in Winter, I think it adds real atmosphere to see it when there's snow on the ground.
Or you can watch it whenever you're done with your current show. Atmosphere is great, but the show is better.
Or you can watch it right now. Like this second. That's probably the best choice.

Oh, boy! That backlog is gigantic. I cry a little each time I open up my spreadsheet containing that information.

Depends how you look at it. I've got roughly 30 series that I have that I intend to watch or finish. Of course, a good 8-10 of those are shows that I started and wasn't hugely enthusiastic and so they're on indefinite hiatus. There's also another dozen shows that I picked up on clearance from rightstuf for next to nothing that I'm not really in a hurry to see but figured I might as well grab.
In terms of shows that I really am eager to see I have a backlog of about 8 series.
I just got Eden of the East and Ghost Hound today so they're probably next.
Baccano has been at the top of my list since the complete collection came out but it keeps getting bumped by new stuff. Now and Then, Here and There and Boogiepop Phantom are also priorities and Crest of the Stars, Infinite Ryvius and Noein are also on my pile.

I haven't run the numbers recently, but the last time I did, my backlog comprised of 25% of my collection. My buying/viewing habits haven't changed too much, so I think it's about the same.
I currently own a little over 1100 individual DVDs, so thats... about 253ish DVDs to watch? Sounds about right...
Yeah, I know- I AM working on it, I swear!

Hm, lets see. These in Japanese (seen them in English before)
Shuffle, Sasami Magical Girls Club (second half), Cowboy Bebop (& movie), Wild Arms, Rune Soldier, Slayers Evolution/Revolution, Solty Rei, Baccano!, Welcome to the NHK, Ghost Talkers Daydream, Mao-Chan, and the last 2 volumes of Death Note. Then I would watch
the stuff I bought in Japanese as well (see the titles below).
English (or re-watch)
Kamichu, Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu, SDF Macross (need to watch in English), Ruin Explorers, 801 TTS Airbats, Area 88 Vol. 1, DearS Vol. 1, Mr. Stain on Junk Alley, Blade of the Phantom Master, the rest of Azumanga Daioh, and maybe Strawberry Marshmallow.

I dunno there, Blood-... when you break mine down by titles, the unfinished number is 82. (But that's everything- movies, OAV, TV, partially finished and completely unwatched.)
That's the hard part about this- aside from everyone adding up the runtime of their backlog, you can't really tell whose is biggest.
The important thing is, we all need to watch more anime. (or buy less. ) Shame that whole pesky 'real life' thing keeps getting in the way of TV time.

Oooooo, so it's gonna be like that, is it, DuelLadyS? Fine, you leave me no choice but to throw in my unwatched movies and OVAs:
# unwatched OVAs: 6 (out of 13 total)
# unwatched movies: 10 (out of 17) - if we thrown in GitS: Innocence which I've only watch about 20 minutes of, this number becomes 11.
So!
59 + 6 + 11 = 76!
...
Oh. *shakes fist*
Fine, you have won this round, DuelLadyS, but...
*steeples fingers evilly*
...we will meet again. Oh yes, we WILL meet again.

I have shows I've had for at least 4 years ago that I either haven't finished or still haven't started.
Movies: 17
Series: 59
(When did I buy Simoun? I have no memory of this!)
OAVs/Specials: 12
And that's only things I haven't watched at all/still need to complete. You don't want to know what percentage of my collection is still unwatched because I bought it after renting it and still haven't been able to schedule time for a rewatch.
I'm currently trying to cut through my backlog a bit, but it's not going very well, since I'm also desperately trying to cut back on my manga backlog (last check, 160 volumes, not including ones I'm going to have to translate from Japanese). I have better turnover with my manga (since I can carry it around), but I keep finding treasures at Half Price Books that prevent me from getting ahead. ^^;

22 series not watched (or unfinished)
4 movies/OAVs not watched (or unfinished)
11 shows watched elsewhere (friends, Netflix, fansubs) and then bought but never re-watched yet
Which drives me nuts, but I'm burning through some TV on DVD right now from Netflix and am sort of going through an anime slump. I don't think I've really watched anything new for the last couple of seasons. I start, and then even if it's halfway decent (Occult, Shiki, Giant Killing), I get distracted and stop. It may be just because I'm tired of sitting in front of my computer; I'm not sure.
The last few shows I remember actually being excited about and watching religiously are Cross Game and Toradora. Oh, and Big Windup 2, because I loved the first one.
