I personally find it really annoying when I watch a Bleach video on Youtube and I see comments along the lines of:
"Bleach is so stupid now, I can't believe I used to watch this show"
or (on the first opening) "The good old days, when Bleach was good"
When I see those comments I just roll my eyes ( ) and be happy that I still enjoy the show/manga immensely.
What about you: Are you swayed by other people's opinion on your favorite anime?

I don't care in the least if someone says what I like sucks. Opinions of entertainment are subjective. I do try to avoid reading negtive stuff in general about anime on forums or blogs, because these shows are great fun for me to watch. I don't want to bring someone else's cloud of negativity into my happy fun world. I generally avoid reading even professional reviews. The reviewers thoughts can be planted in your head before watching a show, then you end up watching it with the same angle as some reviewer who's primary motivation may just be to sound smart on a website. Best to be clear of all others' baggage when doing the things you enjoy.

Every show has haters; some more vocal and stupid, than others.
Though it would be nice if people who dislike shows could
a) say it in a rational manner (good luck finding this on YouTube or anywhere similar)
or
b) actually know what they're talking about half the time.
I swear I see tons of stupid videos or comments where they judge an anime based on it's dub. Like a few 'Garzy's Wing' videos by random people, where they reviewing it based on the dub and pointing out how bad the dub is and literally the entire video is them ripping on it. Well, yeah, it's a dub from the 80s/90s, so no surprise if it's horrible... if they actually didn't mention the dub and just used the sub track or talked about the show itself that's one thing, but they don't. You should never judge a show or review by it's dub, let alone a hackjob 4Kids-esque dub.
They'd look more credible if they just reviewed the show without mentioning the dub, and focus on the actual, original version of the show itself, rather than some company's unsanctioned dub script and voice-actors... though the impression I get from people who make those kinds of videos is they probably don't watch much anime to begin with, or anything that isn't R1 licensed and dubbed. They always seem to have such radically different views and opinions than actual anime fans I've seen and talked to, and seem to be more aimed at the casual TV-watching dub crowd.
If they talk based on those views, then no, their opinion has no weight. Now, if someone's seen the original version and wants to discuss that in a proper manner, then there's room for a healthy debate there. But it seems most haters tend to be very misinformed about their subject.

I care very much what other people think of a show I like. It makes me happy to know that they loved it and sad to know that they didn't. However, it does not affect my enjoyment of the show itself. I don't mind reading negative opinions or reviews of shows I love. It often lets me discover flaws or things that are commonly misunderstood about my favorites and thus allows me to love them all the more for what they truly are. It helps me understand why I love the show despite its flaws which often allows me to discover something of myself and it lets me know how to make better recommendations and better choose the shows I want to watch.
I have been able to introduce a few people to anime by understanding the flaws of my favorite shows and not recommending those shows to people who hate those flaws. I wouldn't have that knowledge if I simply ignored all negativity regarding my favorite shows.

I rate anime in two completely separate ways: enjoyment and quality. While the two can overlap, they're mainly independent of each other for me. I enjoy what I like and no one's opinion but my own will change that. But my view of quality is very subjective to other people's opinions because I'm extremely unobservant. I tend not to notice when a show has good or bad music, backgrounds, voice acting (especially in subs), etc. until someone points it out to me because I only focus on a few elements in a show.

One reason I read anime forums is to see other people's views on various titles. It would be bizarre for me to not be influenced by such opinions. When I read strong opinions regarding a show I like, they generally cause me to sit back and reevaluate the show. There are two notes I make about such behavior:
1. The opinion doesn't have to be negative. Sometimes a positive opinion will cause me to reevaluate the show as well.
2. The result of the reevaluation doesn't have to change my opinion of the show.
Some examples:
The ubiquitous praise of Nanoha's fighting abilities in the Nanoha fandom caused me to be more aware of her bizarrely inappropriate maturity in the first two seasons as well as the downright boring setup beyond A's. I ended up becoming distant from the series, despite starting as something of a fanboy.
Contrast this with Madoka, where although I find the application of "deconstruction" to every element in the series to be quite annoying, I can find some interesting points that I have not noticed before, with the result that I see the show somewhat differently, but I still like it roughly the same--quite well, overall.
Contrast this with Eureka 7, where I found a number of other fans who found Renton to be quite likable after his character development. This gave me the confidence to dismiss the people who simply consider him a Shinji clone (though the fact that I like Shinji himself certainly helped here).

Since I watch anime (and other forms of entertainment as well) for my own enjoyment, I could care less what others think - particularly the average juvenile rantings you see from the majority of posters.
Why should I care what someone who doesn't have enough common sense to turn off something they don't like thinks. If you like it, that's all that counts.

Whether it would sway me or not depends on if they're argument is rational and has a point, or whether or not they can bring new facts (not their opinion) to the table that I was not aware of. Usually, the answer is, no. If I have an opinion and someone else doesn't share it, that isn't my problem and I don't care who disagrees.
If the opinion is drastically different from mine, I just chalk it up to the person not being me and having a different opinion if they're rational (a fairly common occurrence since there's only one of me) or them being insane or inflammatory if they're irrational. Usually I'd ignore it unless their facts were off or I wanted more information to determine their sanity level.

Same here. If the person is reasonable, I really like to hear different opinions on my favorite shows, even if they are negative, like the Grave of the Fireflies review thread on this forum. There were definitely new perspectives and details I hadn't thought about and/or noticed before, and even though most of the arguments were criticizing the movie it has made me appreciate GotF more.
Another example for me was Revolutionary Girl Utena. After watching it the first time, I was disappointed with the confusing ending and bumped it down a rating. After discussing it thoroughly online and reading other's interpretations, I saw it in a new light and bumped it back up.

Hmm not really. But it seems that the more people hate it, the more I'll love it. REBELLION FTW. And I have a rather obsessive nature so if people hate something I love, I try to analyze, understand, and yes, try to get them to change their mind. <---Blaaaaaaah I hate this about myself.
But moving on.....
If there's a ton of hype about a show, I'll check it out. Once I've checked it out but feel it doesn't hold up, yet people won't shut up about it....I start to get annoyed and try to avoid anything that has to do with it.
Now a really passionate show like Gurren Lagann has so much passion coming from its fans themselves that if you're in a giant theater with all of them screaming and cheering, you can't help but get sucked in. It's the most awesome feeling!! I liked TTGL the first time I watched it but when I watched it the second time, I loved it. I went and bought it.
Also if my friends really love an anime, chances are I'll start to love it too if I watch it with them and the opposite works as well.^^

I'm the kind of person who needs assurance from others so yes, people's opinion on the anime I like affect me. I'm not deterred by people who dislike anime in general but when it comes to reviews of specific titles, I tend to follow the popular opinion despite having other thoughts on the subject. Well, it's not very often that I see people who hate the shows I like anyway, so. I'm a fan of One Piece; it's my favorite out of all the shonen anime I follow. There are people who dislike One Piece, but that doesn't stop me because I know there are more people who like the show. However, if a show is generally viewed as simply okay or worse, sub-par, I tend to keep quiet about my own view of the anime. I don't actually have a favorite anyway, but I love watching in general, and I think what I defend more than the titles I watch is the fact that I watch anime.

Sometimes if a show I didn't really like gets praised by people whose opinions I respect, I will try to give it another chance. It doesn't always change my opinion, though.

Not in the least. Their opinions are based on their own perceptions and really have no bearing on how I view the show. The only time they might have an impact on me is when they try and shove their opinions down my throat, particularly when their entire argument in those cases is based on their own opinions.
If I let peoples opinions effect me I'd be in a straight jacket by now. Considering my favorite titles include Steamboy, a movie that is overall not very high on most peoples lists and is often criticized. Then there's Eureka Seven, which isn't a heavily criticized show, but is often unfairly paired with other anime titles in the genre that have cult-like followings due to some surface similarities in spite of the overall content being completely different.
I'll listen to peoples opinions and will be happy to discuss them with someone who is civil. In fact, such discussions can still be pretty enjoyable even if we don't agree. Will they effect my own opinions? Not likely, unless they happen to bring up a perspective or significant event that I had not noticed or considered.

Sadly, that pretty much describes me. Often times I will watch an Anime with a dub without even caring what other people say, but if someone really slamdunks a title that I really adore, and keeps on trying to tell me how "wrong" I am for liking it and that I should see the "REAL" "PERFECT" version, my first impulse is to stand up for myself. Regrettably, it also causes me to go into a downward spiral of depression, feeling that maybe perhaps I was wrong after all. Usually it takes me meeting someone else who also liked what I liked and had no such problem with it that my fears usually dissuade... for the moment. But sadly, it's an inner struggle in my head that I just can't seem to fight off, no matter how hard I try. It's hard for me not to be haunted by traumatic memories of reading posts of people telling me that I am wrong or "retarded" or a "troll" for liking stuff that such people detest and think should burn in hell. When I am in such a state, I feel like I can no longer enjoy what I like without hearing such voices echoing in my head. (No seriously.)
But dubs aren't the only thing that I find myself affected by other peoples' opinions about. Lots of times I have, on occasion, been questioned by fans if I had seen a particular show and I reply that I have not, innocently, which, frankly, embarrasses me because I feel like I haven't caught up on as much Anime as I should have.
Another thing that can irk me are people constantly trumping shows like "Naruto", "Bleach", and "Cowboy Bebop" as the cream of the crop of all Anime. Frankly, from hearing the latter mentioned so many times, I find myself less and less interested in seeing it. I DID watch a few episodes of Cowboy Bebop at one time, and I honestly didn't see what was so special about it. I had trouble getting into the show; I just couldn't enjoy it as much as other people did. The dub sounded OK to me, but not the "end all be all" kind of dub that I've heard people say. I feel that there are many other great dubs that surpass even Cowboy Bebop. Maybe I need to see the show again someday to reevaluate my views, but I am not so enthusiastic about doing so.
If this makes me sound like a strange kind of Anime fan, maybe it does. But on the other hand, I think I'm much better off being my own Anime fan, not what someone tells me I should be.
