Question about the titles for 'Ikki Tousen' series

There are seven pages for various Ikki Tousen anime, and most of the titles are spelled differently -

Ikki Tousen (TV)
Ikki-Tousen: Dragon Destiny (TV)
Ikkitousen: Dragon Destiny (OAV)
Ikki Tousen: Great Guardians (TV)
Ikkitousen: Great Guardians (OAV)
Ikki Tōsen: Xtreme Xecutor (TV)
Ikki Tousen: Shūgaku Tōshi Keppu-roku (OAV)

There are four different ways it's been spelled. Is there a particular reason? Stylized lettering on the boxes? Transliteration variagations? Lax editing before import and strict rules on the part of the authors?
