This is cool Surprised

The subs for Black Jack 21 are terribly Engrishy though, but since there's an option to edit, it's not a major problem!

Viki's completely different(and public since 2010). Sam's thing was Kickerstarter plus streaming, not Wikisubs.

Oniisama E?

ONIISAMA E?!

Admittedly, while I'd prefer Rose of Versailles, I've been wanting to see this series ever since I learned it was by the lovely Riyoko Ikeda.

OMG, I have a legal way of watching this now. Very Happy

I'll also need to check out what these other series are. Damn, I'm excited!

Yes, I had no idea where the the Korean historical dramas were getting their subs, which were sometimes off the wall ("Why are you here at this belated juncture?") ... and it seems that a lot of them are crowdsourced at Viki.

Being able to just edit that to "Where are you going at this late hour?" straight away is a lot more satisfying than just reporting the subtitle.

That was my first reaction too, until I explored the site some more and checked out its press clipping. It got Series A VC funding late in 2010, picked up the rights to crowdsource a bunch of K-dramas worldwide outside of Korea, and started picking up a following from there. It got Series B VC funding, including investment from BBC Worldwide, late last year. We never noticed it because it just launched its entry into these anime catalog titles timed to coincide with the release of OZMA ~ if you check the credits of OZMA you'll note that its on the production committee.

Its got a free Android app too ~ its version 1.0 and the CM7 side of my Nook Color system is always complaining about it, so its not the most polished app in the world, but since its a free app with free streaming, well, sometimes you get what you pay for.

I am curious, though, where all the people at who pile into internet piracy threads to say its all about regional restrictions? OZMA is worldwide outside of Japan, and AFAIU most of the rest of these are as well. They should be here dancing in the forum that these series have gotten such wide ranging streaming licenses.

Allow me to join in on the collective falling-out over Oniisama E… Laughing

I've so wanted to see this title for so long, particularly for its loaded staff and notoriety, but to think it's actually streaming somewhere is cause for elation, even though I'm not very fond of the idea of user-submitted subs. I admit that it is a neat idea and perhaps the ultimate answer to the fansub, but I like professional translations for the stuff I watch. However, I'm glad to see another streaming site pop-up, especially one offering titles yet-to-be-seen in the U.S. or elsewhere (very nice to see Black Jack 21 and Master of Epic up, too)

Is their service region locked? If yes, which Countries does it stream to?

The site has region locking to meet whatever the license restrictions happen to be, but OZMA is worldwide outside Japan, which is a wider region than Crunchyroll obtained (it probably helped that Viki was in the production committee). For instance Crystal Blaze (aka Glass Maiden) has an R1 licenses, so its region locked for North America.

So far, I've seen a UK viewer say all of these are in the UK, but to find out if there are region locked in the rest of Europe, South America, Southeast Asia, etc., would take someone from those countries having a look to see what they can see.

Click on TV, and then slide down the "filter by country" side panel to pick Japan. From the US, it shows "Japan (9)". In the UK, it shows "Japan (10)".
