Hello.
As the title says, how broad/specific is your love of Anime? In other words, do your go for one specific genre, or do you love a huge range? For me personally, I try to go for School- based comedy anime, with maybe a few supernatural elements. But what about you? Do you only enjoy action, or supernatural anime? Or do you just go for anything that you come across? |

I just watch a little of everything. I like all kinds of anime and manga so there is no reason for me to limit my watching. As long as my brain finds something that makes me enjoy the series, I watch it. I don;t know what it is that makes me like an anime, I just do or I don't. Good writing and Directing play a role in my choice of anime. But that's never the sole reason. I just think that if you limit your self to one genre then you're going to miss out on something good.

I can enjoy pretty much anything as long as I find some element of the story or characters interesting. I watch a little bit of everything from violent horror to soapy romantic dramas and all genres in between. On the other hand the stuff that I usually enjoy the most is the serious stuff aimed more at older teens or adults in it's subject matter like mystery, science fiction, action, or horror. Doesn't stop me from enjoying a good light show like a comedy, harem/echi, or romance show either though when I'm in the mood.

I don't branch out from science fiction much. Actually, sci-fi is my favorite genre when it comes to literature or film. Honestly, I'm probably more of an all around science fiction fan than I am a hardcore anime fan.....if that makes sense.

I've always said that I like anime for its variety compared to American animation (though I still like those shows too). I'll give almost anything a shot at least once, though for the life of me I just can't seem to follow or am just not interested in Gundam related stuff. Currently I'd say my collection is heavy on comedy/harem/romance type of stuff, but I'm just starting to build it up again after spending most of this decade only watching whatever was on TV or only buying maybe one or two DVDs a year, and a couple years of none at all. I'd say the only genre of anime I'm not interested in is probably hentai, at least not anymore. It was a passing interest early on, and a local comics shop rented out anime (including a LOT of hentai) so I took advantage and realized that most of it wasn't worth my time, or the money I spent renting it. So in the end I believe or I'd like to think I have a pretty broad range of anime that I like.

I tend to gravitate to the action/giant robot/space opera kinda stuff, but that won't stop me from picking up fantasy based shows, harem stuff, comedies and even the occasional magical girl show. So I have a fairly broad, yet limited taste when it comes to shows.

I have a very broad interest in anime. For instance, I enjoy many mechas (I'm not sure if the plural for mecha is mechas, but whatever) such as Eureka Seven and Mobile Suit Gundam 00, but I can also get into more girly anime (I'm a boy btw) like Fruits Basket. Those aren't it of course, I'm just listing some examples of the top of my head.

My choice of anime is quite diverse as I have seen titles of various genres. I've seen dramas, comedies, romance, harems, sci-fi action, adventure, fantasy, shounen-ai, and shoujo-ai just as some examples. As long as the series flows well and doesn't go too over-the-top with all its elements, I can enjoy it.

Bit of everything.
I love my sci-fi, Im fond of comedy, some drama, romance, action, fantasy... Ill watch a cute little magical girl show and then move on to a hardcore violence and gore action thriller... you know, pretty much the only genre I dont like is hentai, and even there I can make an exception if its exceptional. There are even a few yaoi and yuri titles I enjoy although in general I have little love for those genres. Im pretty broad in my tastes. |

My biggest love is for GIANT FRACKIN' ROBOTS, but I also like good sci-fi and fantasy stuff. Drama can be enjoyable, too, if done well.

I think I end up watching things I'm interested in (shojo ) But I do like other genres...it just depends whether I like it or not... Though I can't say I'm a fan of mecha. Though I have yet to really watch one of the highly praised shows, I haven't gotten around to it yet. But I like to think it's broad, but until I really look at it, it probably is really specific

I'd have to say it's pretty broad. Perhaps not as much as some others but it's definitely not just in one genre.
I use this list for myself in terms of comparing my lists to others to find new anime on occasion (since they added that neat little feature). animenewsnetwork.com/MyAnime/?user=xanas&categ=10 |

It's difficult to find an anime that sticks to one genre: it will always cross some boundaries and swerve into adjacent roads. You can easily stumble upon anime that trangress genres and intertwine them. Take for example, Planetes....it goes from comedy to drama to action to social commentary to mostly sci-fi and then some slice-of-life. So I prefer anime with a wide range; you get bits of everything and a lot of it altogether.

This is quite true... American animations tends to be more just straight comedy... put into differnet ways. Yes it's nice, thanks america, but i think it's time for some expansion into other genres like serious animations... there dont' seem to be many. But then again, kids watching CN aren't looking for thrillers in cartoons or anything, that would appeal like broccoli to a infant. As for me.... I kinda go for whatever. Although i do tend to be watching comedies more often than not. But really, i don't like to limit myself to just one genre. I feel in order to be able to fully absorb anime, ... well no, i mean, it's easier to absorb anime when i'm viewing differnet genres. This is because if tends to offer a plethera of styles, which in the long run provides for a wider arange of anime. There are a few anime genres that i stay away from... such genres are sports style animes and magic style animes... they're just not my thing. I'm not into magic and ... i don't feel as though i should watch sports in an animation for some reason. But then again, regarding magic, i have watched a few and own a few of the magic genre... it's not completley off my list but i tend to put it at the bottom. Other than those two, i generaly will watch anything so long as it appeals to me or the anime community (basicaly here) talks about it... or if i run into it randomly at a store and the back is written well enough and sounds interesting enough to make me feel decent about buying it. Although i'd have to say my favorite genre is Slice-of-life mixed with comedy and a little action.. which is good because there seem to be some of these out there. I'm glad it's not like Psychological mixed with sports or osmething a little more off beeten path. I also tend to enjoy post-apocalyptic animes, however those tend to be a little more seldom or hard to find at least, than the other genres... damn (or wait, is that an element... clarification perhaps?). -Elfen12- |
