Science nerd here, you may have noticed that the Great Circle wasn't 4/7 the length of the Rhumb Line. The secret is there is a major strong ocean current and winds (Ferrell Cell Circulation) that traverse that path caused by the Coriolis force. The Winds especially move from east to west toward the equator and slows ship motion when moving west to east...Really, Ryusui should have known that and surprised Senku didn't mention either...

It wouldn't matter if it took 70 days if they're going to California's central valley where they stuck the pin, since it doesn't snow there. And since they're after dent corn and not sweet corn (the latter of which they'd be more likely to find in CA), it would still be mostly fine on the stalk even a month or two later. Deer, raccoons, squirrels and other animals might beat them to it, but that will be true no matter when they get there. If they're planning on harvesting from Kansas or somewhere on the Plains where it does snow, they're not going to make it over two mountain ranges in time anyway. Also, without irrigation, I'm not sure how much wild corn they're going to find in either place.
But the episode was still fun. Aren't these people mostly still physically teens? I was surprised they let them drink alcohol without some disclaimer about underage drinking (and how they're technically no longer underage), since anime seems to be pretty rigid about that. |
