I mean if I was a fan of the anime and I read through the preview guide...I sure as heck wouldn't want any of the reviewers to review it lol. I am sure the extreme negativity on the show, of a series that seemed well liked, tanked the votes for it. Because the show does seem to have a good audience based of CR's popularity list. I still have to check it out myself, but I'm sure it didn't reach #1 for no reasons.

Or maybe it was because of the overly negative impressions/rants(some didn't even address what).

Death March got panned for it's mediocre look and other technical aspects. Not many people actually expressed much defense toward it either. On the other hand the reviewers who got Ryo seemed to have picked on the loli aspect(and trashed it for it)and from what I read here, people thought they were unfair and dismissed other aspect too much.
I do think this had an effect.

Because ironically, the "reviewers", at least the current gen are made of people who are pretty discriminatory. |

When and how do you vote? And how would you know to vote for a completly new series?

^They have a poll on this site after nearly all of the shows in a season have premiered. It's usually at the top of the page while it is going on.

You can view all surveys on the site, including those for the Streaming reviews here, but yes, it is closed, so you can't actually take a look at it beyond seeing that it happened.
The "Choose Your Daily Streaming Reviews: Winter 2018", like 6 down is the one for this season.
When it opens, it will appear on the right column of the site on PC, and is usually active for about 36-48 hours.

Yeah but Death March is shitty enough (or seen as shitty enough) to be worth torturing reviewers with a la Chaos Dragon and Big Order. Ryuuou got no such reception since posters actually defended it and a couple of reviewers said it was sort of okay outside of the loli stuff so it came off as too mediocre to be worth reviewing.

One of my favorite anime this season, literally can't wait to start buying the physical copies of the light novels (if they ever decide to put out physical versions). It's a shame it wasn't picked up to be reviewed but honestly with how most the ANN staff acts towards things even with light loli fanservice it probably would have been terrible to read. Series is great though and has actually made me far more interested in Shogi then I've ever been before. Also Ai is best girl.

A tad off-topic, but I think the voting period for these reviews is too short. Every season I look to vote on which shows get reviewed, but by the time I find the poll the voting ended already.

^ It's up for a full 2 days and, according to Zac(and how statistics work in general), the results solidify in basically the first couple of hours. I know it sucks to miss the window, but they have to make the picks quickly because "time waits for no one". Seriously, seasons of anime are super short, and they can't spent that much time picking what to review after the premieres have ended, since many shows are already 3 episodes in by that point.
If you visit the site just once per day, you should never miss it.
