I've seen rooms that look like you're trapped in a vortex of Lisa Frank Trapper Keepers...

I cannot seem to focus on anything else in this article because this is probably the most unsettling thing I have ever read on this subject.

Love hotels serve their purpose and that is to get some "relieving" going on. I don't understand why anyone would seriously stay long term when cheaper options like capsule hotels and manga cafes can offer lodgings longer and for cheap. Sure, they may not have as much of the fun amenities, but gotta be smart when you travel.

That said though, it is a novelty that I wish that it shouldn't be stigmatized, as is other pleasure venues like soaplands. People have needs and they're fulfilling it in these locations for a lot of reasons. No need for the judgment.

Earlier in the year I watched a 2006 anime called High School Girls that prominently featured a love hotel in one episode.

The American The Grudge 2 also a scene where the ghost gets someone at a love hotel.

If you're there overnight the rate is cheaper.

Hotels will have 2 or 3 different rates posted very prominently outside the hotel.
Day (2~3 hours discounted during day, not all places offer this)
Rest (2~3 hours, all places offer this)
Stay (8~10 hours, depending on the place)

The price for a "stay" will be about double the price of a "rest"

In central Tokyo, for rest, I've seen prices from 3000-8000 yen. For stay I've seen prices from 5000-12000 yen. I do wonder if they are more expensive or cheaper out in the country side.

A "rest" is 2 to 3 hours? Just how little do people in Japan sleep?
