It is indeed light and refreshing. That said, episode 4 did make me wonder a bit about Hina. Teruaki's confession did not come to pass due to Hina messing about with her marker and part of me wonders if that was intentional. The past few episodes have shown she is great at observing her environment and the people in it. Because of that I could understand Hina seeing Teruaki liking her and Kana liking him. Considering how good friends Hina and Kana are it would make sense.
The second half was also interesting in that the flashback of child Hina and Kana was great. It really showed their friendship and the ED with them walking alongside and growing older made for a pretty strong moment. It also helped that the episode looked pretty great. |

I’d love to be able to watch this show with my friend’s wife since she’s from Okinawa just to hear what her impressions of the show are. While I know the show exaggerates everything, I’m really curious as to the extent the exaggerations are.

@Smurky I can't tell if Hina's emotional intelligence is high or not - we mostly see her being a big-hearted extrovert when she interacts with the public, and when she's with Teruaki she seems oblivious about all matters romantic. But I like the theory that her obliviousness is just her way of being a loyal friend. Kana's going to need one, because this male lead is obviously taking his cues from a long line of dense, clueless anime love chumps.
I have to say, the show is spending more time on romance than I thought it would. And it also looks like misunderstandings and unintentional innuendos is going to be an ongoing gag after this week and last week's incident where Teruaki confused references to a fish with a person. |

One of the highlights of episode four (besides maybe learning to whistle like that -- I've never been able to) was the third friend of Hina and Kana who has pretty clearly figured out Kana's feelings for potato-kun, and is pushing them together. I suspect that will be a theme going forward, even if Hina hasn't figured it out.

As charming as episode 5 was I would struggle with a few of the Okinawan aspects on display thus far. One of those is the bus never arriving on time and sometimes being an hour later. That one combined with a lot of Okinawans supposedly not arriving on the appointed time would drive me up the wall. On the other hand, maybe it is all about needing to adapt to a more chill mindset with less rushing and needing to be on time. The vibe that the show gives is very much a ''just take it as it is and don't make thing more difficult than they need be''.
Otherwise the let's go thing is confusing as heck and the shopping date was rather charming. The bad pun to end the episode with was welcome too. |

The bus thing wouldn't bother me. Growing up, I was the only member of my family who wasn't late for everything, and to this day I still always make sure that I have a bottle of water, a snack, and something to read wherever I go.
And yah, this episode was pretty charming. It crossed the episode 5 mark with ease while I can think of a few anime that I've either dropped or that are hobbling on crutches right now. But I'm digging this season overall. |

The "let's go" aspect of the Okinawan dialect must be really confusing for people from the mainland, but I'm glad it resulted in more fodder for us Kana/Potato shippers.
Plus, radio calisthenics! I usually skip the opening, I hadn't realized just how much it focuses on Kana and Teeru, plus their gremlin friend who shows she's noticed even in the opening. |

I mentioned over on I'm Marrying a Classmate that I Hate that I'm not too into romantic triangles, but if that's what this is, I'm got my kana tee shirt on, half my hair is died blonde, and I'm waving a big foam finger in the stands

Episode 6 was another fun one. A bit of culture with Obon, a bit of history with soba (plus alcohol) and some danger with the sun and a typhoon. That bit about how hot and intense the sun can get over there is something that will make sure I never visit in the summer, getting actual burns is something else. Typhoon wise it started off interesting and innocent enough with seeing how accustomed people there are to them but the last bit was pretty intense. Not prepping at all and just having a snack session was not the best idea.

Talking from personal experience, that's pretty typical for mainland Japan during the summer, August in particular, as well. I'm not exactly sure by what they mean by actual burns, but I'm guessing that it may be from touching certain surfaces rather than directly from the sun. |

I was more involved with the typhoon part, having lived in tornado country myself at one point in my life. The scary thing about typhoons in Okinawa would be - I think - that having such a high water table with beachfronts and all, they wouldn't be able to dig storm cellars very easily. It would indeed be frightening for a newbie.
I'm glad it was blondie who showed up. I'm optimistically taking it as a sign that the author is ultimately a kana shipper. |

My only experience with Japanese typhoons was back in August of 2019 when I had to travel from Fukuoka to Osaka via a very packed shinkansen the day before one hit western Honshu. Since I was using a rail pass and didn't have a seat reservation, I had to stand during the entire 3-hour trip. Living in the northeastern Untied States, I've experienced a few of the typhoon's Atlantic sibling, the hurricane. Thankfully, it's pretty rare that they make it as far north where I live, with the last serious one happening back in October of 2012. Most times, hurricanes get weakened enough that by the time they do reach us, they wind up being less severe tropical storms. |

I have experienced Japanese typhoons twice, the last one was when I stayed at a village on Ishigaki Island in Okinawa in October of 2019. It forced me and a group of friends to stay indoors in a wooden house for two days. The wind was so strong that it managed to move a pretty heavy wooden table several meters accross a veranda. The windows shaking for hours from the wind was a rather unnerving experience. I can relate to Teeru's fear in episode 5. On a unrelated note, I visited Ishigaki Island again last October and saw the Okitsura manga volumes prominently displayed at a bookstore. According to wikipedia Japan the manga is more successful in Okinawa than the latest One Piece volumes. |

The manga-ka Sora Egumi autographed Okitsura tankōbon for the Naha branch of the Junkudō bookshop, and it seems that the Bunch Comics section in the Naha branch of Junkudō has an Okitsura-themed display. I have bought Okitsura manga tankōbon and have read them in the original. The postscript of Volume 5 suggests that Sora Egumi conducts research on Okinawan stuff well. Okitsura not only is set in Okinawa but also frequently depicts/talks about Okinawan things including its language. I can understand Okinawan people's being interested in the Okitsura manga and their supporting it. |

I am glad to see that this show is getting so much discussion here since it is such a charming adventure every week. It would be nice if the manga is populair enough to create the possibility of a second season.
Episode 7 started with the second half of the typhoon story and despite the rather frightening situation it was cozy. Some food plus company and games can help to make the time go by faster, there was even a bit of romance (though Teru is still firm in the Hina camp). The Habu saga was portayed in a very cute fashion and the banana slaughter bit was wild. Having so many juicy bananas close by seems handy, even if you need to watch out with harvesting them. |
