That was pretty horrifying and haunting, but not in a way that makes me want to drop the show. More like in a way that makes me want to see justice delivered to that Iago-like piece of crap (just to be clear, I'm referring to the villain from Othello who could manipulate people into committing murder for him, not the talking parrot from Aladdin).

And yah, it seems like this Hell gate thing isn't sentient, but some kind of mechanism that can't read intent. It reacts to physical circumstances but not motivation, which resulted in a massive injustice and is incredibly disturbing. You would think that some kind of sentience designed the mechanism and might have maintenance checks or something. Maybe Hell is a bureaucracy and five different demons are passing work orders and complaints through the system until it gets buried. Where is Heaven in all this?

I'm a little curious about why psycho-san did what he did. Was he testing to see if people really would go straight to hell if they killed someone, or was he fulfilling his need to kill the only way he could? Well, both, I guess. Anyhow, it doesn't seem like its going to be a one time thing, and I'm sure it's going to get more frustrating in the short term..

Episode 4

I had the same reaction as Gina: Hellgirl didn't actually kill her friend, so why does she get sent to Hell? I'm hoping something will happen in the future that rectifies that unjust sentence but this is a Japanese horror show, so it probably won't. Japanese horror doesn't mess around. See Vampire Princess Miyu for another example of bad things happening to good people. But yes, very much looking forward to Psycho Killer's comeuppance.

So, at the end of last week's episode the hotel gang was not yet aware of how Oosoto is manipulating people to hell/death. With episode 5 that is very much not the case anymore and I wonder how things will move forward. I know that they can't kill him but restraining him somehow is not against the rules, hell, chop his legs off and throw him in a room and it becomes a lot easier to manage.

Yeah, so the hell gate system continues to come across as an incredibly flawed defense mechanism. You can't kill anyone, but you can torture them with sharp glass as long as you want?

I also find myself wondering what will happen next. I'm not sure the hotel has anybody as devious as psycho-san on the staff. The MC seems to have a quirky, creative kind of intelligence, but she comes across as impulsive and easily distracted as opposed to scheming. The lady with horns gives off some enigmatic, knowing looks, but that's about all I know about her. She could be mentally out to lunch or not care about what happens to the guests. Matchhead looks like he should be scary but all he wants to do is run off and drink. Butler Boy seems pretty handy, but we haven't really seen how smart he is. The cook seems straightforward and earnest beneath her reserved behavior.

I've been thinking about this because I'd really, really like to see pyscho-san get what's coming to him.

Is monkey guy a guest or staff? His periscope seems awfully handy for figuring out who's dead and who's still alive. Why is it just now being used?

I'd like to know how they know 1 out of 50,000 may keep their memories and I'd also like to know how Oosoto could learn the results of his latest experiment.

I guess he's trying to figure out whether he's alive or dead without finding out exactly, hoping to maintain non existence as long as he can.
