Look, guys. I didn't mean to rain on everyone's parade here. It's just that I don't think I could really sit though "Nobody's Boy Remi." Now,I looked it up online. While it does end well,a lot of it feels just depressing. It's no surprise to me that it doesn't have an English dub. It'll easily depress any English voice actor who does it. Here's the thing. I saw an anime with a similar theme when I was a kid.
It's called "Belle and Sebastian" and I saw it on Nickelodeon. It was about a young boy who goes out in search of his long-lost mother. He's aided in this quest by two dogs. And,here's the thing. There's both sadness and joy on his adventure. Sebastian makes some friends on his trip and it's also an enjoyable show. That's not the case with "Nobody's Boy Remi."
Much of it is just unrelenting sadness until Mattias enters his life. It does get better, but the show seems so dreary to me that it wouldn't be worth it to get it on DVD or Blu-Ray. Look,I've seen a lot of darker shows before, but I got into them because there was some light in them. I make it quite clear in my earlier post that I don't think I could get through "Nobody's Boy Remi" because it's so grim through most of the show. I never said others couldn't see it. I simply said that it wasn't for me. It wouldn't matter if AnimEgo eventually gives it an English dub. It's not a show I really want to see. If others want to,that's perfectly alright with me. It's just not for me. I didn't mean to step on anybody's toes, but it's the truth.

Then don't. You have no obligation to watch every anime show ever released.

Look,I read the article invalidname linked to and it made it quite clear that it's one of the most depressing anime out there. Yeah,it's the type of show that makes "Angela's Ashes" and "Schindler's List" seem like old-time Disney movies.
In a lot of ways,it doesn't surprise me that this show isn't going to have an English dub. This sort of anime would have many English voice actors on antidepressants or Prozac just to get through it. If Mr. Sevakis' article is to be believed, than this show is incredibly grim, and I think we don't need this in this country right now. We need something fun, comedic, and uplifting, not a downer like "Nobody's Boy Remi." From my viewpoint,I wouldn't want to sit through it. It's too morose for me to even consider getting this thing, even if it had an English dub. |
I was literally begging for Toei to redub Precure (The lightest of lighthearted fare) for months and I still think Remi is a classic and while its dour subject matter wont sell much, I am not against it being licensed.
I still think it would need the Latin American dub to sell though. Or at least Spanish subs to go along with the English subs. This show is the stuff of Legend in Latin America. Before DBZ, before Sailor Moon, Before Saint Seiya there was "Remi, El niño de nadie."

Well,I got a couple of responses to my post. First off,Ryo Hazuki. You're right. I am under no obligation to watch every anime out there. I'm just giving my honest opinion. I have little desire to see "Nobody's Boy Remi." That doesn't mean that no one else can see it. It's just that this show isn't for me. For others, they can see it if they want. I'm not going to stop them.
As for YagamiBlackstone255,I can see that there are plenty of anime we never got here. "Nobody's Boy Remi" was one of them. Personally,it doesn't really matter to me if it doesn't get an English dub and I'd be surprised if AnimEgo gave it one. It's not going to sell well here like it would elsewhere. It's too grim for most people in America. If there are people who want it,then they should see it. I'm not one of them and that's perfectly fine with me.
