she's right though, the news states that the actor would be "starring" in the live-action, but at any moment they mentioned he would be acting as Eren

we don't even know if they're planning to follow the original story or create an AU one

People can say this about anything. But at the end of the day you can't trust Hollywood to do a manga justice because manga doesnt appeal to mainstream audiences, and they will gut a movie apart in order to market it to mainstream audiences. They already do it for comic books. Dragonball Z is the most mainstream anime in the US and look how that still turned out and had to be tweaked.
