However, it hasn't detracted from my viewing pleasure in the slightest. |
It won't detract from your viewing experience, instead it can give you more of background information. Those walls of text are essentially Koyomi's thoughts that SHAFT couldn't fit in. In episode 6 it's talking about Suruga, while in episode 1 Koyomi thinks about Senjogahara, and what he knows about her so far. I think it's worth your time to pause video and use step to read... yes to read; oh almighty SHAFT I bow before thee for making 24 minute episode into 40 minute slide show by making us read! At least its an alternative for those who want more info. Skippable otherwise.
In my previous posts I was so excited about the ending of ep 6 I totally forgot to give our belowed Senjougahara some credit. The girl is serious about her relationship with Koyomi. She ain't going to break up easily and already she proposed to move in, and is concerned about Koyomi's [lack of] plans for future. I wonder how far they went in their relationship already, and how much blood Koyomi lost while at it. This makes me think that it was Senjougahara who "caught" the toughest character and not vice versa. Anyway just my "two cents" about most likely the best female lead of 2009.

The text can actualy be quite helpful, it can help you understand a bit of the background information of characters aswell as what they might be thinking. I seem to remember some actualy carried his suspisions of what he thinks is hapening, or about what exactly the side effects are that he has from post vampirism.

So I got around to watching episode 1 finally, I'm going to watch more.
The style of flashing text boxes and weird camera angles is great seeing as it's from Shaft. I'm a bit surprised at the style of animation they went with. It's a mix of the Negima OVD style and SZS
which is eye pleasing so far.

Doesn't the vampire have it's own book? I thought it was the story before the main series which I think isn't getting made in to the anime as far as I know. (I could be wrong)
I fond the episode to be interesting, the Monkey arm kind of freaked me out a little thought any way I'm wondering if she used any of the 3 wishes yet, or does the arm count as one already? I mean it's for her soul here, meaning it would be bad if any of the wishes where used next episode wraps up the ark I think? can't wait to watch

Interesting episode, looks like this was mostly so we could conect to Suruga, who does have some interesting traits, but otherwise didn't have a big impact, except maybe her arm. She admited to him that she was a lesbian, pretty openly, though she also aparently has an interest in BL. It was kind of entertaining that in a scene where they were meant to cleane up, we saw them frolicing in the books like it was water.
Suruga's secret was kind of a shock at first, though she gave a pretty good conection to a familiar story that seems to be simlar to her case. Oshino seemed to be able to know what he was looking for quickly, though the discovery that it was a demon arm and not a monkey arm, seems to complicate things. We also got a bit more of a hint to little miss nothing. Well I actualy spoiled myself on Wikipedia with what she is, wish I didn't do that as I miss out on fun of guessing.

My favorite part of this episode was the cuts to the water feature. Such a stereotypical technique, but the speed of the cuts made it ironic and perfect for this series.

I like how this series does things completely unexpected and uncalled for but at the same time it all fits the world and characters. I did not expect Araragi to cover up assault, although it does make sense for if his girlfriend went after Suruga... I am afraid to imagine what would be left of her. And what about Senjougahara's loving girlfiriend fanservice "untill you can move again"? Simply hilarious.
The rest of the episode is pretty good too, but I don't find Suruga as interesting as Mayoi. I wonder what our final boss Tsubasa has up her sleeve... should be epic.
EDIT:"...what would be left of her(Suruga)." I think Senjougahara would've won... maybe with some broken bones... but she'd claim victory.

Which one? They're both terrifying.
Did anyone else find it odd that the fanservice was blacked out in episode 7 (considering the opening panty shot of episode 1)?
Another highly enjoyable episode. A little more explanation of Suruga's situation, some rapid-fire witty banter, and a little twist at the end. None of the events were particularly surprising, but I mean that in a good way: the characters and world are such that the revelations seem perfectly natural in the order of the story.

I think it was blocked out because of the lighting of the scene? I mean it was dark out where the scene took place so maybe they just did it as a tease?

SHAFT is just teasing us. Look at the two screenshots below. On first one they intentionally darkened everything, as I imagine it would be hard for Koyomi to see anything in the dead of night. Then a second later they blind us with light in strategic place. She does wear panties and you can see the outline as well as slightly different colour(checked by zooming in in photoshop). Adding third image, darkened version of panyshot. Now her underwear outline is clearly visible. White pantsu! But where did the pattern go?

Nice episode. At first I thought we'd spend the whole episode watching them in her room, revealing her secret and all.
Good to see things are back on track, since the past episodes didn't involve much violence(which is how the anime was in the beginning) other than a little girl's fight. Also good to see Meme again after a while since I find his character interesting.
This is an information about Araragi which you might find quite interesting after watching this episode. Thanks to his vampiric traits, Araragi can see in the dark. Don't know if he mentioned that before during the anime but if he did I totally forgot.
So that probably explains the whole point of what happened in the first few minutes.

Bleh, I gave up on the raw after 5 minutes. Strangely, the previous episode was easy to digest it before the subs came out, this one made me sweat. Anyway, the new TL is out there, sleepy guys
