I figure one Christmas thread with at least a notional anime theme wouldn't go too far amiss.

Merry Christmas...

Did Santa leave you anything pretty and anime shaped under your tree?

Santa was pretty sparse for me - I don't really like giving really detailed lists, and theres no way anyone I know could do a particularly good job at getting me stuff I haven't seen but I want to see if they were just buying blind.

I did manage to prompt one of my brothers to buy me the Firefly boxed set, and the other one got me Memories with only minor prompting.

And a couple of manga volumes I added to the amazon basket while my mum was buying stuff for my brothers - like Volume 1. of Welcome to the NHK!

Anyway, ho ho ho, and a merry christmas...
Or seasons greetings to anyone who is thoroughly against christmas. Have a happy non-denominational celebration.

Don't eat too much or drink too much sherry. (Or spend too much time reading on ANN - go AND SPEND IT WITH YOUR FAMILY!)

I scored the E's Otherwise thinpack from my sister and the Yu Yu Hakusho Third Strike Collection which now means I've finally completed YYH on DVD. I'll get to E's tommorow, but right now I'm loading my brand new MP3 player up with anime and metal tunes.

I dont think I got any anime this year.... no one in my familey really understands my tastes well enough to shop the entertainment industry for me.
I sure bought myself alot of anime though. Christmas gift to myself I guess, since I dont usually splurge much any other time of year. Second volume of Gankutsuo, first volume of Starship Operators, second volume of Trinity Blood and Advent Children. I also got my brother a Naruto DVD, third volume.

Not a heck of a lot, but he did manage to slip in The Twelve Kingdoms Collection 2, which will be a good help in acquiring that series (legitimately). I don't really like to make massive anime wishlists to distribute to all my family members, because 1) they don't entirely understand the anime world and all the particulars of DVD releases, or how to effectively order onlines, 2) I'm a little old to do so, plus it feels like saying, "Hey, help me feed this addiction of mine at Christmas!" You don't give an alcoholic a 1.75 of Crown on Christmas, do you? Laughing

I highly doubt it, but won't really know until Friday. While I will be going down to my grandparents for the extended family get together tomorrow most of my gifts come from my immediate family. With the extended family we just draw names so everyone gets one gift from whoever had their name and most my extended family doesn't know what anime is so I'm not expecting anything there. Since my brothers a cop and has to work most this week we don't do our main Christmas with the immediate family until Friday, though I doubt I'll be seeing any anime there either as my sisters fiancee is the only one who likes it.

I'm an alchy and my friends for some reason think these types are gifts are ok. Not Crown, but I did recieve a bottle of brandy and a bottle of Chivas Regal. Mad It's like no matter how many times I remind them that I don't drink anymore I always seem to get these temptations as gifts for my birthday and Christmas, I guess my past really won't ever just die away as I'd like it too.

Anyhoo... Back on topic: I don't trust anyone buying me any entertainment as gifts, so I simply tell people that if they do not know what to buy me then get me gift cards. I made out with 3 Barnes&Noble and 2 Best Buy cards that I'll likely use partially for anime and manga as well as books (the new novel Hannibal Rising by Thomas Harris looks promising to me, as a fan of the franchise).

I did of course splurge on myself via rightstuf with orders for the Samurai Champloo box set, the Desert Punk bundle, and A Little Snow Fairy Sugar box sets, as well as some pre-orders on series I'm currently collecting. Of course with the Holiday time I'll likely not see any of those until mid to late January at the earliest, but I have been steadily recieveing some things that I'd pre-ordered well before the Holidays so all in all I'd say I had a good Christmas, anime-wise, courtesy of me. Very Happy

I got the first 7 DVDs of Fullmetal Alchemist (YAY) and a massive pile of Japanese candy and such. I also got some of the makeup for my Nana cosplay (convention's in January) and my mom told me she's paying for me to get my hair cut for it as well.

Merry Christmas, minna-san! Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go eat pocky and watch FMA until Philosopher's Stones ooze out of my ears^^

I got volume 4 of Kamichu! I was lucky enough to get all four of the pencil boards along the way so I am happy about that. The thing I was given that surprised me was a wall scroll. This was given to me by a couple of friends who go to Japan a number of times a year on business but rarely go outside to enjoy the culture. I am envious. I was asked if they could bring back something from Tokyo and I said "Sure ...how about a picture of the Tower?" The response was "Which one?" I laughed and the friends started looking confused so I said "If you went to Paris, London or Toronto and I asked for a picture of "The Tower" would you bring back one of a Bank building?" They both admitted to not getting out much when traveling and that they did not know much about anime. Anyway after much wrapping extraction I found that I had a "Lost Exile" scroll that they had picked at random. No "Tower" picture but they picked one of my favorite series. Total surprise and delight!
