So I just watched these first three episodes. Exposition has been spotty but I guess that's expected, unfortunately. The one thing I'm actually even a bit surprised I have a problem with are the character designs.

I mean, if you look at F/SN and F/Z's designs, even for something that was outright porn, it was fairly tame. Here, you get Mordred with the underboob (that the camera loves), Jeanne in the ED has that funny "look at my assets" pose, and the anime also managed to sneak in a close-up of her breasts while they're tying her up to torch her.

Otherwise, I feel like the anime's been going pretty fast. The LN doesn't take its time too much either, but we get 'scene stablishing these guys, scene stablishing those guys, scene stablishing THOSE guys' in quick succession all the time I feel.

I've just finished the third episode and I had to check out what ANN (or at least the reviewer in charge) thought of it.

I can't believe this travesty. I thought FSN (the original) was flawed in comparison to the GREAT VN, but still watchable. Fate Zero was pretty good. UBW was decent but flawed and Fate/Grand Order was pretty bad. I feel the need to state this so you can understand I like this franchise while not being a fanboy of it.

Now THIS? If FSN wasn't such a profitable and enduring franchise, I'd say this series could be potentially responsible for running it to the ground.

I can deal with bad character designs and spotty dialogue but this series MAKES NO SENSE! Siegfried's """"arc"""" was LAUGHABLE, Frankenstein is kinda moe and the supposed poster girl of the series (Joanne D'Arc) is horribly underwritten and her only saving grace is being the one visually appealing design of the WHOLE BUNCH. There's not a single character with charisma or presence (actually scratch that. Mordred and her master are kinda passable) nor we are given a reason to care about this whole war.

While I never found the series particularly good, I was mildy entertained by it...but after the unintentional comedy ep3 was, I became curious as to what other people think about it.

INB4 "this is only your opinion, it doesn't mean you're right". I know that already. But there ARE some objective aspects of narrative...some level or standardthat SHOULD be expected and when the way things are presented isn't coherent and you see stuff like "great animated action scenes" and I'm reminded of the battle in the woods...can't help but sigh.
