@Vamptvo on twitter also reported:

Shocking that this scoop was left to twitter and omitted from the panel report.

Awesome! I'm glad Lucky Star is going to be on Crunchyroll! I hope that maybe the English dub can be added to the site.

I'm surprised it hasn't been made public knowledge as to why CR can't put karaoke on their subs by now.

You're surprised people don't know or that they haven't said why? Because they did. It's a creative issue - those karaoke subs are considered a creative alteration to the show, and they need approval from the Japanese company/creator, which is a massive headache and would delay shows.

No, I know why quite well. I mean, I hear people complain about it all the time and I just thought by now it would have been made public knowledge so they can stop BSing about it.

What precisely can Crunchyroll do to force people to listen when they explain it, if the people are more focused on venting their complaint than on finding out what is going on?
AFAICT, Crunchy explains every time that they get permission to subtitle openings and endings that they need permission.

There was no BSing about it. It is public knowledge. (He actually gave an overview of how many back and forths are required.) Most of the people who ask these things don't follow the industry or anime news (or are intentionally trolling as was the case here). Someone else was asking this to the Aniplex rep after the Aniplex panel too.

I'm guessing it's even possible they did check into it for titles, but were rejected- it's a cute idea, but it's often tacky/distracting looking, and I imagine many directors would rather not have them. If they wanted karaoke style music subtitles, they'd of put them onto the Japanese version too.
It's also possible that a karaoke version of a song is a seperate license from simple translating the song given those sorts of things are often sold individually on Karaoke discs and such.
CR sounds to have covered it, but I guess the problem is indeed that most kids don't follow industry news- even at ANN, you'll see people ranting about something that's just been covered in ANNCast or in an article that they didn't bother reading.

I must confess that I've wondered for the longest time now just exactly what the reasons are that licensed releases do not have "karaoke-type" subtitles while fansubs do have such subtitles. Now I know!

I think you guys are thinking I'm being negative toward CR here. I'm not. I'm talking about the people who complain about it without realizing why is what I meant by BSing it.
Oh and BTW, I went to the CR table all three days (nice guys they are) and totally won the prize of a free years subscription. Yay me!

Let's also not forget how Crunchyroll had illegally uploaded the entire Lucky Star series either several years ago.
On another like, just like you said, there is no Bsing about it. The same topic has been said on other websites as well. It's pretty common knowledge now and days.
