Here's hoping that Bandai can garner even a fraction of those JP sales numbers.

lol this isn't even really fair because that's 2 seasons vs 1

and s2 of k-on alone had double the episodes (so double the blu rays?) of bakemonogatari

i'm actually suprised it took THIS LONG to beat it

bake wins in sales by ratio of runtime

Hahaha that just sounds like a desperate excuse for moe kicking bake's ass. Too bad.

Not really, it makes sense. No ones saying it selling well isn't good, it just has double the episodes so its not that great of an accomplishment. Plus if you look at the individual weekly sales they are higher than K-ON's blu rays.

selling 348,000 copies of bluray with 20 something episodes anime is consider super good. some anime with 50 eps can't sell more than 100k bluray. yeah, moe anime is not dead and still very popular.

But Bakemonogatari is still more popular than K-on. it doesn't sell as much bluray because it has less episodes than k-on is very valid point.

But more people should be able to buy Bake because it's less BDs to buy. Therefore, it should make more money.

Sounds like K-ON kicked Bake's butt.

This is a testament to K-ON's staying power.

Not to mention that Bakemonogatari is from a well known light novel author who already had a large contingent of fans before SHAFT had even announced their anime adaptation.

Whereas with K-ON!, the manga was hardly known at all before KyoAni had announced their plans to an adaptation.

So in my mind, it's quite an impressive feat that KyoAni was able to take a relatively unknown piece and make it so that it nearly matched the sales of an extremely well known piece.

What in hell are you going on about? On a per volume basis, many more people did buy Bakemonogatari when compared to K-ON.

If a one-shot OVA sold a whopping 50,000 copies and a TV series did a meager 5,000 copies per volume (series spread out over 12 DVDs for a total of 60,000 units), could you honestly say that the latter is more popular than the former?

As for staying power, a sequel to Bakemonogatari would certainly do just incredibly well.

I really don't think it matters now. K-ON is over and now people are moving on, just like every other anime. If Bake is still going, then people will for the next big thing. Personally, I didn't give a damn about the anime after seeing about 4 episodes of Season 2 (though I still finished it), but I still loved the music. Keep going with the music, and i'm a happy camper. As for the show........thanks for the memories.
