I know the glorious and immaculate FUNimation can never make mistakes, but this just sounds lazy to try and not correct an error. Little to they know that fans can become irrationally incensed over things like making the change for that short sequence.
What could have been so bad that they needed to scrap the entire ED?

If this is a technical issue, I don't see how FUNimation can't be given correct materials to fix the problem thus allowing a trade-in deal for existing buyers.
Quote: | When asked about the changed ending sequence, Funimation told ANN, "It was not a mistake, just a technical issue with the file we were given, and we felt that it was best to make the change for that short sequence and complete production." Funimation also emphasized the ending sequence did not affect the story in any way. |
This coming from a company that released the Dragon Boxes of all thiings!

they probably didn't get a clean version. But if that was the case, they most definitely made a bad decision. Putting the full ending on WITH Japanese credits would have been better.

Yeah without the proper ending sequence the whole series is unwatchable!

Perhaps it doesn't matter, but it is unfair to say fans would get irrationally incensed. I am sure those who loved the show would like to get what the Japanese got. If it was a show I cared about I know I would. You would feel cheated otherwise.
Really don't understand Funimation's issue on this, couldn't they just request a new file, after all they are paying money to the Japanese owners for the product. My guess is that someone at Funimation screwed up and didn't catch this problem until the last minute. By then, it was too late to try and properly fix it, so they made a quick bandaid for the problem, and probably hope that it won't hurt too much at the cash register.

Sounds like it will just mimic the style of the 1st half's ED. No big deal, really.
Who knows how long it would delay the release if they tried to fix it. I, for one, don't want to have another situation like Linebarrels of Iron.

Translation: We are lazy, instead of contacting the Japanese and getting the correct ED masters we decided to cut corners like we always do.

it's just the ending sequence, most of the time, I don't even watch those. Perhaps the footage they got was corrupted or something. No loss to me, and everyone freaks out at the word edit. I just LOL and watch them go crazy 'cause it makes me laugh.

Some of the theme segments are very enjoyable. I've been known to re-watch good ones 3 or 5 times in a row.
Most people leave the theater as soon as the credits start rolling. Some of us stay until the screen goes white. Who are you to say those who want to see the full credits are wrong?
God knows I've paid Funi enough money over the last decade & god knows they continue to act as though they know best about anime. Obviously they believe they can write a superior script to the original Japanese product, that we're somehow buying the anime just because they released it & not because we heard about it when it aired in Japan & decided to buy it then if it came over here.
I trusted Geneon to bring us good product reasonably close to the Japanese original. I trusted ADV to stay as faithful as possible while making it interesting/fun for the American audience (with a few exceptions-Ghost Stories for one). ADV had anime fans in their administration.
Funi started out as a dub-only/strip the product of all signs of origin & they still show signs of that mindset. It seems like a product.

Something minor was edited so that the DVD release wouldn't be delayed... and the problem is what exactly?

Oh my god... a company treats something as a product? Next thing you'll be telling me they want to not go bankrupt like those other two companies you cited! Heaven forbid!
Yeah, yeah, I hate it when companies cheat and take shortcuts on releases, but in the grand scheme of things, I'd rather they worry about other things, like translation accuracy and video/audio quality, than getting the OP/ED themes correct (though obviously I am so very grateful they got the OP music for Eden of the East, I am more or less obligated to buy it now, I think).
