... *squeals until she's out of breath* Oh man, need to breath but... *goes back to squealing*

I. Can't. Wait.

I don't really picture Keiko being a great Yukari, but she was pretty fun as Sailor Mars a few years back in Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. Nice to see her getting more work.

Osamu Mikai is NOT George, but I'll hold my judgment til I see it.

Oh my, this is FABulous. I love Paradise Kiss. I only hope they can do the clothes justice, especially the final dress.

I Love Paradise Kiss but I really don't know about a movie.

They are gonna need to get the fashion and outfits 100% right because that's the only thing they can do. They can't really replicate the looks of most of the characters very well. And they sure as hell can't replicate the art style. So that pretty much leaves the story and the fashion.

I would have preferred a bigger budget animated movie rather then a live action one but that's just me.

I just hope they won't go the way of the anime and turn Hiro into a non-entity, and try to present George and Yukari breaking up as something sad and tragic when it was probably the best thing she'd ever done in that relationship and he respected her for it.

The manga is brilliant but the anime made me headdesk more than once.

This is wonderful! I'm looking forward to it (even though I'm a bit worried about how it'll turn out).

I'm usually pretty iffy about Japanese live action things. The acting is just... stiff, I guess? And since fashion plays pretty heavily into the story that's another element that has to be really well done or it will look bad.

Looking at Kitagawa's Wikipedia page gives me some hope though: "As a child, she wanted to be a doctor, but by the time she reached high school she was uncertain as to whether she could do that, and not sure what to do in the future. At around this time, she was scouted by a talent agency, and she decided to try the entertainment world. Her parents were initially opposed, but they gave their permission, on two conditions: that she give up if she was making no progress within a year, and that she put her studies first and graduate from university" That sounds almost exactly like Yukari's situation, so hopefully Kitagawa will bring some good insight into the role.

I loved Paradise Kiss.

Also, the cast is perfect.

Huh. Well, I'm tentatively excited. I really liked Keiko Kitagawa in Buzzer Beat, and I think she'll make a good Yukari.

I don't think I ever finished the manga (been meaning too) but I think this could actually work really well as a live action movie.

I dunno. Is this Japanese punk equivalent to Sex and the City really gonna fly in a country with its own recession? Hell, I thought the female lead was irritating when the economy was good.

mufurc: It was the most pointless thing she'd ever done, actually.
She just came off disposable as a result. And personally, I liked those Nana "bonus stories" with George and Co. more than the main story, 'cus she's not in the former.

One of my friends should be excited. I didn't like ParaKiss very much, but Nana is excellent.

I like Paradise Kiss. Not a big fan of Live Action drama/film though. Gratz to those who are.

The fact that you're calling it the Japanese equivalent to Sex and the City just shows you just didn't "get" it. Paradise Kiss is far from being anything like a bunch of middle aged women and their sex-capades in the big city as they blow all their money on name brand fashions. Paradise Kiss is about a girl who grows into a women, and most importantly with about every character in it; self discovery. That self discovery was made even more prominent with the fact that everyone outside of Yukari actually created the clothes they wore. Sex and the City was never about expressing yourself with what you wear.

Thank you, you summed that up much better than I could have.
I was just going to say that Sex in the City is about a bunch of trampy consumer-whores, who think that feminism is all about spending massive amounts of money on useless crap and sleeping with everything, whereas ParaKiss is a coming of age story about a young woman learning what it is she wants with her life, and learning to stand on her own two feet. You said it much nicer though.
Anyway....yay Parakiss movie! I'm interested to see how Miwako is going to turn out in the live-action version. She was always my favourite of the group.
