Nice review. I found myself enjoying this even more than I did the Queen Bee OVA. Although most of my viewing these days has been sub-only, I really enjoyed the dub. Can't wait for Collection 2.

Added to my Netflix queue. I also added the Queen Bee OVA, mostly because John Dimaggio plays Togo. The fact that he's the voice of Bender is enough for me.

TANoD's currently showing it and I watched the first episode last week. I was instantly hooked.
After reading the review, it'll be in my collection sometime this year. The figma figure I bought of him was completely worth it. *BANG* |

I was so close to buying the DVD at Best Buy for 50 dollars two weeks ago. I can buy it on rightstuf for cheaper, but I don't have access to a credit card. Either I buy Big Windup!, the Sengoku Basara Blu-Rays or Golgo 13 Col. 1....damn I'm in a pickle.

I have a hard time believing ADV's ghost put out a good English dub when ADV themselves couldn't most of the time. I'd be interested in hearing it.

I think it's pointless to debate dub quality. Everybody has their own tastes. Personally, I think it's much better than any of the garbage Funimation has put out over the past year and half. They are one of the few dubbing studios that actually make me switch to the sub track on a regular basis. Sometimes I think they should be barred from producing their own dubs after what they did to FMA:Brotherhood and Ouran. 
As for the show, I've watched the first disc and I've been enjoying it. I don't care for the grain effect that was added to the animation (think Red Garden) but other than that, no complaints. |

FUNImation's dubs aren't terrible. They're just mediocre. One could argue that medicore is just as bad because they're so whatevers, but they're nowhere near terrible (think Cromartie High School dub bad).

You know, Golgo 13 has always been one of the most difficult manga series to adapt to anime.
For one thing, there's the fact that there is no single, over-arching narrative. All of the stories are completely independent of each other, with only Duke Togo being the chain that links them together. Sometimes, he isn't even in the story physically and is only there in spirit. Many times he's just barely the center of the plot. Plus, there's the complexity of the stories themselves. Many of them are timely and revolve around current events. Takao Saito and his studio (Saito Pro) actually have professional researchers and photographers who gather material for the stories. Virtually each and every story is filled with the kind of realism and detail you'd find in a Frederick Forsyth novel. That type of ultra-realism doesn't translate very well to film, no less animation. |

I agree. Golgo 13 has constantly amazed me over the years due to this. Its hard to believe that Saito has been keeping this up for over 40 years! |

Loved the first collection and enjoyed the dub. I already have the next collection on preorder with Right Stuf.
