OK, so I just got a really good deal on all of the UFO Ultramaiden Valkrie seasons at my local video game and anime store. All four seasons for $35. Someone tell me what to expect, I've read reviews but I want to here from you. I like ecchi but is there even alot in this? As compared to, say, IkkiTousen, or is it a bit lighter on the ecchi like something like Yumeria or Vandread?

Oh there is A LOT of ecchi in this. It actually caters to one of the widest variety of ecchi themes in any show. There's the moe/loli (not starting that debate here so please stay off it people, simply stating Valkrie does fit that image to a tee) main character who transforms into a voluptuous woman when she kisses the guy who shares her soul. Of course when she does she becomes nude and you see her breasts grow from nothing to DD's in about every episode. There's her sister who fits the same bill. She's also a prime example for a tsundere I think. You have tons of catgirls for the catgirl fetish people. When Valkrie transforms it's like a magical girl theme. There's panty shots and boob shots everywhere. In fact you see nude breasts in the bath house in virtually every episode. That's all just in season 1 btw lol. There's 2 more seasons and OVA where it gets even raunchier in my opinion. So if you wanted a full on ecchi fanservice title that is lowbrow then you made a fine choice.

The second season has quite a bit of bondage fanservice too with Valkyrie Ghost plus mecha and Yuri fanservice with Ms. Sanda's fantasy in the freezing cold. (Not to mention Hydra and Akina's merging.)

If you wanted a great guilty pleasure title, you got it.

If you want to see a crazy show from the same director, check out RIN ~Daughters of Mnemosyne~ when you're done with Ultramaiden.

That's not at all what was being asked. Also, I haven't seen Ultramaiden Valkyrie, but I the impression I have is that it's fairly insubstantial and fluffy, whereas Mnemosyne is dark, gritty, gory, and highly sexual while just staying the clean side of hentai. It's like telling someone to see Heat Guy J because they liked Escaflowne: it does not follow.

@Psycho101: You pretty much told me everything I thought it would be. Tenjho Tenge type Brst Expansion, Cat chicks, chibis, pirate chicks, etc. Although I wasn't expecting a tsundere type character, that wasn't something I could of guessed just by looking @ the box art. I don't know if I'll have an easy time sitting through it though... I HATE the whole annoying HIGH pitch girly voices type stuff. I don't know if I'll ever even get to watching it, but I'll try, because I do like ecchi.

I've read up on RIN before. I won't buy it unless I can find it way cheaper though.

From what I've heard other people say describing this, it really needs to decide whether it wants to be a cutesy magical girl show or a typical fanservice-heavy pervathon. Trying to fit both brackets (especially with the transformations) sounds very...disturbing.

Then it looks like your great deal just got flushed down the toilet.

Get ready for ear-splitting "Kazuto! Where are you going?", "Kazuto!", "Kazuto!", "Leave Kazuto alone! He's mine!" from Valkyrie, kid form, in every episode.

Despite this annoyance, I did like it. The re-watch factor fails after each episode, but season 2 actually makes up for it with Valkyrie Ghost, who I wished were the star of the whole series. Very nice to look at.

"Kazuto!"

Just how many animes have the plot of alien princess forced to live with earth boy for some reason, anyway?

I'll watch it with Japanese audio (though I heard it's still annoying, oh well). Or, if there's really THAT much ecchi, which I like, who needs the sound on at all, right?

There's a fair amount of ecchi, but compared to recent anime like Kanokon, Queen's Blade, Aki Sora, B Gata H Kei, Kampfer, etc., it's not outrageous. There's some loli content with young!Valkyrie and her transformation sequence, but nothing that's "line-crossing." So it's about in line with shows like Yumeria, Girls Bravo, Green Green, and Vandread. Somewhat below the ecchi content of the first Ikki-Tousen season.

The English dub is fairly good too, if you want to avoid the Japanese cutesiness. It doesn't completely avoid the high-pitched girliness, but it's toned down a bit.

Everyone always talks about the pedo aspect between Kazuto and Valkyire, but I was always more intrigued by the relationship between Hydra and Akina.

Hydra starts out with her own agenda and is an outgoing and aggressive personality, but she is quickly trapped and a leash is put on her by Akina. Hydra becomes Akina's reluctantly obedient child-slave/ward or whatever. The bondage is justified as adjudication because Hydra damaged Akina's temple. As the story bumps along there are several places where Hydra could obviously slip out of Akina's control but chooses not to. So what's the deal with her?

I see, so it's no Kanokon, QB or Sekirei. But did you see Princess Lover? Does it have almost as much as that?
