Now that Howl's Moving Castle has been finished has anyone heard about the release date for the Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind DVD, Porco Rosso and My Neighbor Totoro DVD's?

They HAD been slated for the end of this month, but was announced a couple months ago that they have been put on hold for the time being. So who knows when they'll be out, probably not until January would be my guess. After all, Disney would want people to buy their own titles as Christmas presents rather than anime.

It's widely believed, or just widely rumoured, that the delay of the DVDs until January is so that the DVDs can tie-in with whatever limited publicity they'll be giving for the, presumably limited, or limited-wide at best, domestic release of Howl's Moving Castle, which is rumoured to be hitting North American theatres in February.

Since the Ghibli DVDs don't sell even 10% of the number of copies as something like Finding Nemo, releasing them after Christmas actually does make a great deal of sense from a marketing perspective as they won't have to compete with very high profile children's DVD releases, since both Shrek 2 and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban will own the children's DVD market this Christmas.

Disney is all about making money, as long as they sell their products they will be happy. Delays happen. Confused

I wonder if they will EVER release Whisper of the Heart and I Can Hear the Sea.

As for the delays no surprise at all, I waited this long I can wait another year or two. THank goodness for the raw vhs versions I got. Wink

They won't ever release I Can Hear the Sea, it wasn't part of the Disney-Tokuma deal. And I believe that Whisper of the Heart is tied up in some copyright thing over the prominent use of (Take Me Back) Country Road in the film.
