Holy crap, there are other people in the world who can resist from bashing a Gonzo show anytime the chance is presented
 . Anyways I like and agree with much of this review, especially the part about the soundtrack. But I like the ED song very much.

Huh, with all the negative points you mentioned about the show's plot, I thought it'd get less than a B-. Well, I never watched all of it myself, so I can't comment on anything past the first five episodes (which I didn't like).

I'm probably one of the very few people who enjoys Trinity Blood enough to have purchased the blu-ray disk because I enjoyed watching Trinity Blood on dvd and *originally* on Adult Swim. (gee, television airings of anime that led to dvd sales, what a notion!)
The reviewer did a fine job of talking about the plot, so I don't need to add much to that. It is a true shame the story could never be properly finished. I have only watched the first episode of the show to see what the hi-def quality was like and to this layman's eyeballs, it was just fine. Like the reviewer mentioned, you can only do so much with the source material. The sound was great too, so no complaints there. It's pretty simple really, if you really liked this show, you'll probably want to buy this. If you didn't like this show, you probably never bought it before and won't now, regardless of upscaling, or resolutions, or any of the technical crap. |

Really? I recall nothing of fanservice, which only goes to prove I'm very desensitized to it.
Read this many times, folks who've never seen this series. It's so true!
Here I thought I was the only person who noticed this, given this is rarely discussed. What a shame, too, as she ended up being my favorite at first simply because she acted intelligently.
I'm still fuming if this helps give this statement more emphasis. I'll go even further to say this is the worst ending I've ever witnessed in my anime-viewing history.
Worse, the music score was so intrusive, it actually blocked dialogue several times to the point I actually had to turn on the subtitles just to understand what was being said. Poorly done by the audio folks. Hell, I'm in a generous mood, so here's another +500 points for the good review.

Yeah, I agree with everything he said about the plot, which is why I would've given it a quite lower grade (C-). It has all the elements to be great, but never resolves itself into a cohesive story. I sort of understand that they wanted to honor the author (who died shortly after the anime adaptation was announced) by not giving one of their classically bad gecko endings, but the result is that there is no ending, there is no resolution. Sure, it makes you want to read the books (the final volumes of which are apparently being written by someone else from the late author's notes) but it makes the anime horribly frustrating. Still, in the original the animation was gorgeous - but if this is an upscale, I could see that easily deteriorating. It's unfortunate studios feel obliged to release Blu-Rays of everything lately. |

I have never known Gonzo to have "spectacular visuals". They've always been at most average, for me. Maybe I'm just biased after watching Basilisk. What a mess...

Surprisingly, no - and I've lived here for nearly 14 years now. 
A couple of people have wondered about the Story grade I gave given the comments made: that reflects my compromise between the grade I felt the bulk of the writing deserved and where I'd grade the best scenes. Giving the whole series a much lower Story grade (I could see a C+ being justifiable) denies the fact that it did have some scenes that worked wonderfully well and that, even when the writing wasn't at its peak, it still made an effort for depth and substance (well, at least some, anyway). Does this look as bad as the Claymore BD does? Somethings upscale really well and somethings look like absolute garbage.

Really? It's seemed to be the opposite for me. Gonzo is a compnay that puts out anime that looks visually great but is badly written. That's not to say ALL Gonzo anime is bad. But the stuff they write themselves is more likely to be |

I heard a lot of praise was given to Esther in English. She was emotionally realistic in a lot of good ways. I have to agree. I personally enjoyed Trinity Blood, even though you are right the points regarding Abel's past. Nothing really got brought to light very well.

My friends and I started watching this when it was coming out in fansubs and had to stop about a quarter of the way in (see above). We just sort of lost track of what the heck was going on and basically stopped caring (of course, we were drinking that night too which couldn't have helped our attention spans). I have to say, nothing I've read or heard since then, by people who have finished it, has inspired me to revisit it. Actually, this may be the most positive review I've seen for TB. Maybe someday when it's super-cheap I may try tackling it again, if only for the visuals & character designs (hey, I really like that poster).
 What an apt comparison-- Yukikaze is in the same boat as TB for me. Very attractive character designs but I never bothered to finished it (and I own it, for god's sake). I swear, someday I'll watch that last OVA... maybe.

This show was all over the place. The writers couldn't decide who the central figure was, because the "main character" was one of the least important characters in the entire show, elements are introduced and underutilized, and it didn't even have a real ending. I remember the dub being okay though.

Early in ep 3 there's a shower scene featuring Esther. Somewhere around the middle of the series, early into the arc taking place in the Empire, there's a bath scene Esther and the duchess of Moldava share which spoiler[reveals Esther's distinctive birthmark]. That's really the only fan service for guys unless you count the cleavage-revealing outfits. (Which I don't.) |
