House of Five Leaves JUST started airing, didn't it (actually...I don't think it starts airing for another week)? That's one of the fastest licenses I've ever seen..... But I guess if they're simulcasting.....

Still, that's an odd show to grab onto like that.

Sweet! These were the last two anime I was eager to check out for the Spring season and the fact that they will be available as legit streams is awesome.

Wowza, isn't this the first series (apart from Brotherhood) where Funi has gotten the simulcast rights before it aired? Not complaining, both of these shows I was kinda interested in and if I don't have to worry about finding fansubs for them I'll give them a whirl.

Erm... is there a typo?

"The simulcast of House of the Five Leaves launches on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. CDT (Friday morning in Japan). The simulcast of House of the Five Leaves will launch next Thursday at 11:45 a.m. CDT."
Two launches?

YES YES YES!

The Tatami Galaxy (whose English title I never heard before today, but since I never remember Japanese titles, I guess it works) is a show I was ultra-eager to see, but figured there was no way in hell it would get any R1 license, let alone a simulcast stream. I LOVE that director... his work with both Cat Soup and Mind Game are mind blowing.

Excellent! The final two shows that I'm interested in for this season, and legal streams! Good news on an otherwise meh day. Smile

Great news. House of the Five Leaves looks really interesting, but I've never heard of Tatami Galaxy. Either way, legal subs are great!

HOLY HELL! Funimation picked up a Yuasa property? they just gained a new level or respect from me. If they get the rest of his stuff, I will never say another bad word about them again.

Important to note from the press release that these are apparently only streaming licenses at this point, comparable to Crunchyroll.

"The partnership gives the American anime leader rights to the online streaming and simulcast of the series in Noitamina in the U.S."

I don't think Funimation has an obligation to continue with a publishing license if they decide against it. These promise to be the two most unique and idiosyncratic shows of the season, they might have a problem finding a wide DVD audience.

@Spastic Minnow - yeah, that's an important distinction: streaming rights does not automatically mean a DVD release. Witness the still lamentably unreleased Shikabane Hime series which Funi streamed last year. That being said, getting the streaming rights is at least a positive indication that a DVD release MAY happen at some point.

Somebody picked up a work done by Yuasa? FINALLY!!!!!

Thank you, FUNimation. I now have less of a reason to complain about anything you do in the future. Even if it's just steaming for now, it's a step in the right direction. Anime cry Anime cry

Well, that was pretty quick.
Either way, I'm a happy camper.

I had no interest in Tatami Galaxy but I guess I'll check it out too.
