Sorry if this topic has come up before.
Just started watching it last night (and have finished 10 episodes in one sitting).
WOW! What can I say! Everything said here previously about it is right! I love it. So what if the character design is not too original (Sagara resembles someone from Gundam, etc., ahd his Captain somehow reminds me of lovely Ruri Hoshino) but I really love the story.
And the fan service is great too ( ). Ahahahaha. Sorry. But it's in almost every episode.
I take it that that first girl they rescued is just to set the tone for the story, like, um, to show us what they do for a living, meaning she's not one of those "Whispered".
I see very little CGI in the show, certainly not as much as in Vandred (Oh, the sub is rendered in CGI, but not much else). The animation swings between great and good. Some lapses include the part when Kaname has been rescued and is in the hospital, the animation there looks poorly done.
I see quite a bit of work done by Korean companies too (it's shown in the closing credits). It's a trend these days isn't it?

I also like Full Metal Panic a lot. I've only seen up to about episode 7 or 8 of the first season but so far its been very funny, a good story, and a lot of action.

Something like that. It's not really even much of a spoiler since she never shows up again in the series. I'm looking forward to the U.S. release of Fumoffu. It's even better than the original.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the girl in the first episode is Whispered. She often appears in a lot of promotional artwork in close proximity to the other two Whispered characters of the series (Chidori & Tessa, of course), and it'd make sense in terms of the plot. The Soviets lose one test subject, they pursue a replacement in Chidori.

It's all been comedy so far, well up till episode 10 as far as I can say.
Some serious moments here and there and it balances nicely with the comedic moments. This is one of the very few shows that strike a good balance between romance (sort of), action, comedy and sci-fi. It hasn't get tons of sci-fi hocus pocus, with language that I can't understand (thank god). It's also not overly syrupy-sweet-romantic. Sagara is a comic when he's straight and stuck-up. Kurz is a comic when he tries to be serious. This sort of contradiction works so well. Mao though, she reminds me of Ryoko Subaru from Vandred and I have a strange feeling she's gonna be some heartbroken gal without a loved one. Don't ask me why, I just feel that way.
I also like it that the show is not episodic. Even after the story arc where they defeat Gaul in that silver AS and rescue the hostages , they have managed to keep the pace going and the story interesting. I'm looking forward to getting home again this evening and trying to finish as many episodes as I can.
One gripe though, I didn't like it that Odex Marketing (who have got the official license) did the show with BOTH English and Chinese subtitles. It takes up so much space at the bottom of the screen.

So far i think the show is ok. Its not the one of the greats but then again I've only seen 4 episodes. I have the second DVD so i plan on watching the next 4 episodes. By then, hopefully, the plot will start to move a bit quicker.

Ken, read the spoilers only if you really want to know.

Nope. Most of the time she really is as tough as she acts. And drinks a lot. But she's not heartbroken.

They may have won that battle, but the war against Gauron isn't over...

Yeah, she does eh?

That much I've already figured out, what with the other boy with the ability to control the lambda drive. He may or may not be connected with Gauron, I'll find that out as I watch further. Well, I did have to stop at episode 10, which was as far as I could humanly tolerate. It was 3:30 a.m. afterall and I needed to sleep!
It's o.k. with the spoilers, I'm not so much obsessed with not knowing anything about a show until I watch it myself. Sometimes I like a bit of a hint here and there. It makes me go "Oh, so it's like that! I wanna go watch it and see for myself".

BTW, just wondering if any of you have noticed how one of the BGM resembles the theme song from "The A-Team"?
Er, any of you old enough to have watched that show?

With all that flying in planes involved, I don't think Mr. T is really up to it.
I also just realized that Kurz looks like that blonde knight guy in Slayers (that one who follows Lena around).

FMP had it's slow moments here and there, but the show combined dramatic elements and comedy. Good ensemble cast and i actually prefered the english dub over Japanese language, but that's just me. the finale wasn't bad either.

Full Metal Panic! was really a good show, The manga is pretty good too! It has it's share of action that fits in nicely with its humor and a good plotline. I'm going to buy the DVD's when I come into some money.

Man, something must be wrong with me. While I liked the show, I felt it could have been so much better than what it was. The beginning was good and the ending was decent, but the plot ran all over the place in the middle (IMO).
To me, when the first story arc (ep. 4-7 ish) ended, it seemed that would make a decent ending to the entire series (anyone else feel this way?) so I was left to wonder what would happen in the next 15 or so episodes.
I stuck with this show becuase I really liked the characters. I prefer Fumoffu, however, because it was silly and more fun.
