shouldn't "Noeru" be "Noelle" ? I've never seen that name being romanised as Noeru in any official release (see Claymore, Tenshi ni narumon, Mermaid Melody). (Though they do tend to forget the female -le ending xD ) |

As far as the official site and the TV Tokyo site go there's no definitive answer; all the text is in Japanese and in the URLs she's just character #4.

well, judging from the first episode it seems like the series is set in (fictional) France (or rather Helvetia is a french speaking country), because quite a bit of french text can be seen, so Noelle would make sense. But also the chance that her name appears in written form in the series doesn't seem to be all that bad, since Kanata's name has appeared twice at least so far.

Having seen the first two episodes and looking at this again.. she actually has a Japanese name, Noeru Kannagi - 寒凪 乃絵留 (かんなぎ のえる). I don't know why their names are given both in Kanji/hiragana and Katakana, but Noeru is a real Japanese name so technically the entry is correct.

The CR subs use "Noel." Therefore I think this should be the most official romanization.
Also, on her character page (http://www.sorawoto.com/chara/chara04.html), her name is given first in katakana and in a larger font, so I don't think it necessarily means her name is Japanese. These promotional pages from a magazine are the same way: Katakana written largely on the top, then smaller Hiragana on the bottom: http://moe.imouto.org/post/show/112862/akai_toshifumi-sora_no_woto-sorami_kanata-uniform The second seems to only have katakana: http://moe.imouto.org/post/show/112857/akai_toshifumi-kannagi_noel-kazumiya_rio-phylicia_ Some people have said "Noel is a boy's name, the feminine is Noelle," but as Wikipedia states, "in English-speaking regions Noel is sometimes used for females as well." There are a number of women named Noel, such as Noel Neill, the actress who played Lois Lane in the original Superman TV show. |
