Yeah, just like Whisper of the Heart, Only Yesterday, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Kiki's Delivery Service, The Cat Returns and Totoro. Can't they make anything else? |

aww, I liked The Borrowers. I think I only read it once as a kid, but still a nostalgic book for me. I'm already looking forward to this... and only God knows when we'll see a state-side release (curses).

Oh wow, the Borrowers!
I loved those books as a kid, I can't wait to see what Ghibli does with this. Hopefully this gets licensed soon.
Hmm, if any of my other favorite book series during my childhood/preteen years were to be anime-adapted, I'd probably go with Animorphs, since the Nick adaptation was subpar at best and anime wouldn't have a problem portraying the sorts of issues and decisions the characters go through. |

I am really excited about this - "The Borrowers" was one of my favorite books growing up, although I haven't read it in years. I might just have to take another look at it soon.

Wonder if people will bitch as much about the change of location with this as they would when a western company adapt an eastern title?
Still, will keep an eye out for it none the less... |

It does bug me, especially in a novel that is apparently very location-specific. But the thought of a director other than Miyazaki or Takahata excites me. I love the thought of new blood--it's what I enjoyed about The Cat Returns, even though it was lightweight as hell. Let's see how this guy handles the chores. |

Aye, I suspect not many 
I think i'll be keeping any eye on this for two reasons. 1: It's Ghibli and that usually means I'll enjoy it. 2: The Borrowers (original) is set about 5 minutes from where I am sitting (one of Mary Norton's childhood house's grounds is now a local school if memory serves).

Oh wow, I didn't see this coming. I haven't read this book in years...I think I've only read it ONCE actually...
Needless to say, I'll be waiting to hear more on this, it should prove to be pretty good. |

Well, given Disney's deal with Ghibli, and the fact that this is an adaptation of something Westerners would be more familiar with, I wouldn't be surprised to see Disney release this one faster and promoted harder that any of the other Ghibli films so far. I've never read the books (or if I have I've forgot) or seen the movie, but I sorta remember the BBC miniseries, and like all BBC miniseries of that type aimed at children I remember it being pretty good, but not visually pretty, but regardless, I am looking forward to anything Ghibli. |
