Can't really say anything about the review. It's amazing people regurgitate the same bs about Dragonball year in and out but somehow call it a review. But hey, it's "otaku cool" to slam Dragonball while praising other piss poor series.

One thing I do agree with is that things can get dragged out. Try reading the manga.

Not as such, no. I asked Michael to do a feature on Dragonball for us, and it's been delayed somewhat, so I asked him to also write up a Dragon Box review, which we needed.

"Guest critic" would be accurate.

Oh, okay. I remembered that y'all asked for applications recently, but I didn't figure anyone'd been hired yet.

Well why don't you give us a better review and we shall compare. Is your writing style up to standard? Do you overall look at something for what it is, not how much you like this character or that plot line and let it over shadow your work?

Give a guy a break. You can clearly state your opinion but be mindful. Obviously I doubt you have considered this: That the reason they say the same thing about a show because, heck, it may have a serious problem.

If 20 reviewers say, 'The main character sucks because he has no character and is a rip off from *Insert character here*'. Then maybe the main character sucks, has no character and is a sub par version of another one.

With that being said, I must say this was an overall positive review on Dragonball Z. Mindful to the fact that, people really like this show. I was expecting a higher mark at the end from the way it is written. Though I'm not a fan of the show ... but I have heard the manga is better.

Though I'm rather reluctant to pick it up. Basically Akira Toriyama was lazy and started comics because "it was closer". And did the Saiyans like that because "They were easier to colour" and the reason he had everything destroyed so he wouldn't have to draw backgrounds. According to here: http://comipress.com/article/2009/02/23/3766

So I don't want to read something that the author puts no effort into.

Overall a good review for the guest.

It's a long series, but with six sets more to go, it's hard to be picky about where the set leaves off.

Does this mean they are re-releasing the whole series this way? I thought it was just for the first part of the series?

In any case god I hope they are doing this for the whole series >.<

Well, I did hire someone. Her first review just hasn't gone up yet. Smile

Dude, I was gonna say something to the effect of your comment, but, you beat me to it. I was talking about this a year ago with VegetoEX of Daizex. It really has become apart of anime forum dweller culture to constantly diss DB/Z/GT, While still obsessing over... Bleach and Naruto? However, if you've seen all 153 episodes of Dragonball and it's 4 movies, all 291 episodes of DBZ and it's 13 movies, all 64 episodes of GT and it's TV special, CONTINUE to buy the nonstop re-releases that FUNi puts out and to top it all off have watched more than one episode Kai... your bashing holds about as much merit as Sarah Palin teaching a geography class. Funimation intends to release Dragon Boxes for all 291 episodes of the series. At least, that's what the original press release stated back in July.

Fair review. I still consider Dragon Ball Z some great shounen even compared to newer shows. Dragged out at times but still extremely entertaining. This release of DBZ to me is all about the visuals. It looks downright amazing, both on the TV and on the shelf. Truly a Toei masterpiece that I never thought I'd get my hands on. That right there is well worth the money spent.

I actually enjoyed this review. It gives a different perspective from someone's who's not a big Dragon Ball fan, so I appreciate that and the fact it was more or less positive.

As far as Kai is concerned, it sucks. While it fixes some of the issues presented in the original Z run, it takes out most of the filler that helps further develop or give more exposition for otherwise ignored characters. The problem with Z wasn't so much the actual filler material by Toei more so than the filler or padding that took place in the canon storyline (power-ups, stare downs, etc.,). Not to mention it's been edited to contain less blood that makes for really awkward redrawn scenes. The redrawn scenes itself are just really out of place to begin with as well. I remember someone saying that Kai was the "cliff notes version of Z". That is true, but honestly if you don't want to purchase the 291 episodes of Z, you're better off just getting the manga instead of diving in to Kai.

While Kai does fix the major "padding" issue from the Z run, it ends up actually creating more problems, as the ones I've mentioned before. It's not even comparable to the Gundam Movie Trilogy, another case of re-editing and downsizing an anime, which Bandai and Sunrise did a pretty good job with. It's probably worst or a good contender to what George Lucas did to the original Star Wars Trilogy on those DVD releases.

I'd rather FUNimation just hound Toei's ass to do a remake series in 2011 to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Dragon Ball anime's start. Just call it Dragon Ball, start from when Goku and Bulma met for the first time, and end it after the defeat of Boo.

Just to put more behind that, the second set is scheduled for February. On the cover it features a rather bold Vegeta.

That press release also says they have the DragonBox masters for all 13 of the Z movies.
